Guest Satisfaction Survey

Well, this thread has certainly demonstrated how important those surveys are to those who provide us with our great cruises. For those that wondered if they were read and any attention was paid to them, presumably this thread has answered that question.

I, too, have received a letter saying they noted I thought there was room for improvement on a previous cruise and there are few who love HAL more than us. ;)

But I felt good they gave my comments enough attention to at least make note of a guest's displeasure about a facet of their cruise.

I would say a bunch of strangers knowing your made up name is different than people who know where you sleep and have the keys to your room and the people who serve your food and know where and what you eat knowing the evaluations you've given to every past cruise survey.

Like the OP and others here, I knew my name and room number were on them, and I assumed it was to track down the stewards/waiters who did a good/bad job, as noted on the survey. I am less than thrilled if it is possible for someone to find out everything I've said about past room stewards/waiters. My hunch is that it is just a form letter that goes out to anyone who rated something less than a (for example) 5 on a previous cruise, to let you know that they're trying hard. Like others here, I think it'd be better sent to your house a week or two after the cruise.

Once again you have hit the nail on the head. I agree with you!

We have never cruised on HAL but are looking forward to a HAL cruise in February. What is a "disembarkment meeting"? We have never heard of this, on previous cruises everything including surveys were done via info type letters to your cabin a day or two before disembarking.

All ships have these...

they are really debarkation briefings, telling you what procedures will be followed, when to have your luggage outside your cabin, customs forms, etc.

this is their last chance to drum into your head the importance of comments cards, and some CDs and their staff are a bit more zealous than others.....

It's a talk in the show lounge by the CD telling you the details of how debarkation will be done ... "silent", or called out by color/number, etc, etc ... and the telling of the same old corny jokes. If you don't go it can be seen in the TV later.

At least your completed survey made it to the appropriate persons.

In August, we spent a great deal of time completing our surveys. We left them in our stateroom (on the table with a stack of other papers) and went to dinner, when we returned they were gone! Apparently the room steward did not want his supervisors to see them so he took them and did not turn them in.

I contacted Guest Relations upon our return, they contacted the ship and confirmed that our surveys were never submitted.

The surveys had our names and stateroom number on them. HAL requested we fill them out. We did. The surveys were taken from our stateroom without our knowledge or permission.

When I posted this after it happened, a few other CC members said it has happened to them before.

Completing the survey was a waste of my time and left me with a bad impression of the integrity of the room steward.

attendance is not mandatory, but if you have never cruised before, you really should go or at least watch it on the tv.

HAL has a tradition of bringing out lots of crew and staff to say 'goodbye' and they sing a song many of us frequent HAL cruisers get 'misty eyed' to hear.......

No cruise is complete for DH and me until we hear "Love in Any Language". It is one of HAL's traditions we always enjoy.

We don't always go to the show lounge to hear the talk but we always watch it on TV at least a few times so we can see the crew and listen to the song. :)

We also received one of these letters, on our Nov 14th Ryndam cruise. My first reaction was "What on earth could I have complained about?" since we've always been very pleased with HAL. I suppose we may have given an "8" somewhere along the line, but I'm certain I never spelled out any specific dissatisfaction - because we've never really had one. In fact, I make it a point to praise those things and people whom I feel have done an exceptional job.

What this letter DID do, though, was make me feel pressure to mark the "9" so as to not make anyone think I was unhappy. In retrospect, I don't think I liked that pressure.

We also received this letter on our recent cruise. Our last cruise was 5/10 on the Maasdam. I couldn't, for the life of me, remember what I had said on that survey. We had a wonderful cruise, and I don't remember anything specific I would have commented on. If anything, it was probbably about smoking. We don't visit the casino, due to the smoke. I felt pressure to mark everything perfect also. We chose not to complete the survey on our last cruise. That's the first time we have ever elected not to complete the survey. We felt they truly did not want our opinion. They want us to tell them what they want to hear.

Never been to a disembarcation talk, tho I've seen it on TV a few times while packing - I too find the CD's "If the ship didn't sink we deserve all 9's" comments rather condescending...

However, I do take time to write down all the names of the staff persons and crew who provided outstanding service and the names or at least positions of those who I feel may need "Remedial Training" - and if there's not enough room on the survey, I use the stationary to make additional comments and recognize specific persons. I also make sure it's in the hands of the Front Desk staff before I leave the ship. (It's one way I keep busy & calm the morning of disembarcation while awaiting my number to be called, otherwise I get an upset stomach due to the impending flight.) :o

In fact, upon boarding a HAL vessel a few years back, I was once greeted by a Concierge who recognized me after a couple of years and came flying around the desk to give me a great big hug because I'd praised her by name on a survey letter from that earlier cruise - Word had gotten back to her via her supervisors and she received a promotion after that survey letter was received. Knowing that my comments were heard and had somehow helped a kind young lady succeed in her career was far, far more valuable to me than any bottle of wine or shipboard credit.

:)
