Hi cruises,

Anyone knows how triple cabin "works" i.e. for a family with one 18 year old?

Are there limited availability of these cabins or do they just roll in an extra bed in the larger cabins?

Any other info wellcome.

MANY THANKS.

An extra bed comes down from the wall or ceiling--no room to roll an extra bed into the room.

It's a bunk bed that is set up at night by your cabin steward and put away in the morning. Unless you get a mini-suite, in which case, there is a couch that pulls out into a bed. With the mini, there's more storage space and a larger bathroom.

And, correct me if I am wrong please, I am pretty sure that if you are in a standard sized cabin and you utilize the third bed (which comes down from the celiilng) you can not have the cabin steward push the two lower beds together to make a King size bed, due to safety issues.

Two cruise sized beds (they are not standard twins) pushed together make a queen not a king sized bed. Your steward will put the beds together if you push for it BUT you probably won't like it. If the third person gets up during the night or comes in late they will need access to their bed and the ladder will be at the end of the pushed together bed meaning you will be constantly jostled/awakened. The ladder at the end of the bed also makes it harder to get up from the queen.

You can't book a cabin meant for two passengers if you have three or more in your party. Look at the deck plans for the ship you're considering and you'll see a symbol (like a red dot) for cabins that can accommodate extra persons. Many of these cabins (such as the insides) have the bunk beds mentioned above. I'm not sure about weight limits, but my hubby took one of the bunks when my daughter was pretty small (even though there's a rail).
