peach 79 Posted December 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2010 Hello, We are going on a cruise next July and will be leaving from Venice. We are currently looking at flights to Venice and we are really confused. Is landing in Verona a good idea? Is it close to the port? Rare TLCOhio Posted December 26, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 26, 2010 Hello, We are going on a cruise next July and will be leaving from Venice. We are currently looking at flights to Venice and we are really confused. Is landing in Verona a good idea? Is it close to the port? Thanks It is about 75 miles from Verona to Venice. If you are coming in early enough (several days ahead) and want to spend time in Verona and seeing other sites in this interesting area, MAYBE, it would be worth considering. But, generally, you will be better off flying directly to the Venice airport. It's much closer with transportation options to get you to your ship. I would strongly encourage getting into Venice early, seeing that great city, allowing time to recover from jet-lag and any flight/weather delays. Been to Venice before??? euro cruiser Posted December 26, 2010 #3 Share Posted December 26, 2010 No, Verona is about 90 miles from Venice, and there is no public transportation from the airport to Venice that I'm aware of. The two airports that service Venice are Venice Marco Polo (code VCE), which is less than 10 miles from the cruise port (about 20 - 30 minutes by cab, there are also land taxi, bus and water taxi transportation options), or Treviso (code TSF), which is about 25 miles away. Treviso has a bus connection, as does Marco Polo, to Piazzale Roma in Venice. From there it is a three minute cab ride to the cruise port or a quick ride on the People Mover. Marco Polo is the best option.

Rare Hlitner Posted December 26, 2010 #5 Share Posted December 26, 2010 Ideally you would want to fly into Venice's Marco Polo Airport. From there you can have several public transit options into Venice including a very inexpensive bus that goes directly to the Piazale Roma (this is about as far as you can go with a land vehicle). rsquare Posted December 26, 2010 #6 Share Posted December 26, 2010 Because we're doing a Venice-to-Civitavecchia itinerary, we are planning to do a long-haul roundtrip to Rome and then fly to Venice; turns out to be cheaper than an open jaw itinerary. Would the second, domestic, flight come in at Marco Polo or Treviso? We need to know since our hotel has pickup service. Is there easy transportation between the two airports, just in case? Odds are you will go into Marco Polo, especially if you are flying from FCO (Rome Da Vinci in Fiumicino) and if you are on Alitalia. The discounter Ryan Air uses Treviso. I don't know about connections between the two airports, but both have express bus service to Piazzale Roma, where your hotel could easily pick you up. Hank I agree that VCE is indeed the best airport. The bus is quick roughly 20 minutes. Inexpensive (as a taxi boat cost quickly more then 80 euros) Arrives at the bus station and near to railway. The Canal grande with the vaporettos is also nearby
