National Championship?

What network is the game on?

If it is ABC, NBC, CBS or FOX you will be guaranteed to see it. (unless the satelitte signal gets lost, while traveling at sea. Happened to us twice now with NFL games)

If it is on ESPN, you might have a chance, if they show it on ESPN International (channel Carnival gets, NOT regular ESPN) like they do with Monday Night Football.

I have never seen a college football game on ESPN International in 6 cruises during football season.

Good luck to you.

Bill

My partner and I were on the Freedom in November. I am a college football fanatic, and we did not miss a single game that we wanted to see. The sports bar or casino bar would be the best bet for the best selection. I was able to watch the Auburn-Georgia game and the Alabama-LSU game on our cabin if I wanted. I am sure the National Championship game will be on a screen near you. What I really hope is that the Auburn Tigers bring home the crystal ball!:D Have a great cruise, I have about 148 days to go before I set sail.:)

They will have the National Championship game on the Seaside Theatre screen. I was on the sailing last year and they had it. I will also be on this sailing and will be watching Oregon kill Auburn!!!

I am guessing that Oregon will loose like all other sorry teams that look good when they play the teams in their conference and then go up against the SEC for the National Championship and Loose. SEC - The real football conference.

Thanks for all the responses! My nephew will be pleased. I just checked with him, and he says he'll be rooting for Oregon.

As for me, 1. I had to ask my nephew if this championship game was football or some other sport. 2. I looked it up online and was surprised to find that it's being played in Glendale, AZ - and I live in Phoenix. ;) I'll find something else to watch. I think there's a good PBS documentary on that evening.

The real issue is the network (ESPN) and not the event (college football). People who have seen plenty of college football during the regular season (on a major network) or past year's championship games (on a major network) doesn't matter. The major 4 networks are no problem, but ESPN could be a problem. And the BCS games are indeed shown on ESPN this year. In past years, the games have been on the major networks, so anyone cruising during last year's BCS games would've seen them, but that's irrelevant this year. The ships don't have regular ESPN, but instead they have the international version. Some people say that they still saw whatever ESPN was showing (just with different commercials), but some people say that they weren't able to see what ESPN was showing. It may be a hit or miss thing. Maybe the ones who missed it just didn't ask the staff to change it to what they wanted to see. Or, it's possible that ESPN International stations don't always have what ESPN shows. Just be prepared.

No matter what, the game will not be available on the stateroom TVs. No versions of ESPN are available there.

We were on the Miracle on Dec 27th and could not watch the Independence Bowl. Instead we had to watch a replay of a soccer match and catch the score about every 5 minutes as it scrolled by on the bottom.

It was the only bowl game being played at that time. The MNF game later that night was shown.

I don't understand why Carnival does not get a few DirecTV satellites for the sports bar to show all the sporting activities (baseball, football, basketball, etc...). They would make their money back in bar tabs. Imagine 100 guys i the sports bar on NFL Sundays because 8 different games are on at once that is not available in the state rooms? Yes, you should be busy with all the ship's activities but Carnival wants to make money and their alcohol mark up is the easiest way for them to do it.

Since ESPN has the contract now, and it is on ESPN and ESPN3 you will probably NOT be able to see it unless Carnival makes special arrangements to carry it.

Although ESPN has the contract, it shows the games on ABC and the Denver ABC affiliate should be available right in the cabins.

The position of the satellites for Direct TV makes receiving their signal that far south pretty much impossible. The satellite feed for Carnival is provided by MTN and the package is called 'TNT Cruise Ship package plus ESPN.'

MTN is in the process of upgrading their service and, hopefully, that will work it's way to Carnival ships...

I e-mailed Carnival to see what they could tell me, and here's what they said: "We have ESPN International that is broadcasting only in the sports bar. We do not have the listing for the sailing as you would have to check their channel listing to see if they would be broadcasting the football game at all."

So I googled ESPN International to try and find the programming schedule for January 10th. I'm not sure how the whole broadcast thing works, but they had a long list of different networks to choose from. I picked the three that seemed most likely to be picked up on the cruise: ESPN Caribbean, ESPN2 Caribbean, and ESPN Mexico. I found the National Championship listed at 8:00 PM on the ESPN Caribbean network. I sure hope that's one that is picked up on the ship. :)

Oooh! I see now that the National Championship is on ESPN Mexico as well. I didn't notice it at first because they just don't have the pregame show at 8:00 - only the game starting at 8:30. :)

Not this year. The game is on ESPN, NOT ABC.

It is most likely NOT going to be seen on the ship since the ships do NOT carry ESPN.

Oh, I said that before. OK, I'll say it again. The game is on ESPN, and is not carried on the ship unless they make special arrangements.

The ship gets ESPN Deportes. Not the other ones you mention.
