sw1002 Posted January 4, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2011 Hi Folks, we have 2 iPhones with a software to monitor our little toddler via WiFi. The software sets the one phone as a receiver and the other as a sender. The only thing that is necessary is a network. Internet connection does not have to exist. My question: has anone of You been travelling on Princess ships with more than one device connected to Ships Wifi and been able to acces e.g. folders on the other laptop/Netbook/whatever device or do they hide other users and their shares? thanks for replying cheers! sw1002
Pam in CA Posted January 4, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 4, 2011 The ship's WiFi logs you in to a proprietary system that gives you the option of logging in to Princess.com for free or to the Internet. There is no way to network phones on the system. It's either Princess.com or the Internet, which you will pay for per minute.

satxdiver Posted January 4, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 4, 2011 You will access the ship WiFi through a browser and will be charged for the time you are on the internet. They do not have a local network setup. WiFi is not available all over the ship. The ship cell tower will connect to both CDMA (Sprint and Verizon) and GSM (AT&T and TMobile) cell phones at a cost determined by your carrier. Most charge $2.49/minute or fraction thereof. There have been many horror stories posted on CC about smart phones not being turned off while on the ship only to return home to cell phone bills of $1000 or more. iPhones seem to be the biggest problems. The cell tower belongs to MCP (mcp.com) on Princess ships.
Loonbeam Posted January 4, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 4, 2011 It will not work, the network has no peer to peer capacity, its simply an access point design. Theoretically, you could bring your own wifi router and set it up in your cabin but you would still be limited to the range of that unit, with all that steel I'd say about 300-400 feet at best. Thats also assuming it doesn't get interference from ships systems. Hi Folks, we have 2 iPhones with a software to monitor our little toddler via WiFi.
