prekteacher1 Posted January 7, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2011 Should baby food be packed in carry on luggage or checked luggage? Sorry for the stupid question.. I'm forgetting what I read in the past. Leaving on Sunday!!!:D
kitty9 Posted January 7, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2011 In order to avoid TSA hassles, I'd put it in checked luggage. The TSA could make it really difficult for you, so just play it safe.
milton333 Posted January 7, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2011 From an airplane standpoint, or on the cruise? On the plane, the TSA guidelines are that you're allowed to travel with jarred baby food in your carry-on. As far as breastmilk and formula, they "encourage" you to travel with only as much as needed for your transit time. They don't say the same regarding baby food, but I'd assume that same rule would apply, and would not carry on cases of baby food, kwim? http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/formula.shtm As far as on the ship, you'll usually get access to your luggage by evening on the first day, but we had some luggage on our last cruise that was still AWOL on day 2. I'd plan to keep out enough food to feed baby for 24 hours.
6rugrats Posted January 7, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 7, 2011 If you are asking about the plane, you can bring on a "reasonable" amount that will last the duration of the flight. The containers should be in a separate bag as you go through security. The rest should be securely packed in your checked baggage.
USnoozUCruise Posted January 9, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 9, 2011 When we flew to Hawaii last winter, we put our daughter's baby food in a separate Carry On cooler, along with some ready made bottles. We had no problems with TSA although security checked it thoroughly for explosives. LOL. It was nice having the food with us at our connection in Chicago; however, the reason we chose Carry-On though was less for convenience and more for economical reasons. Jarred Baby Food is HEAVY and if we had put it in our luggage, we would have been over the weight limit for sure (we weighed it). Of course, once we arrived at our destination, the baby food was rarely touched! My daughter was WAY more interested in trying the food we were eating so it just ended up taking space in our cupboards! Hope that helps! :)
