itd1sah Posted January 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2011 As a non-smoker, I would like to know if Windstar enforces their own smoking rules such as no smoking in staterooms and do they enforce smoking only in their designated outdoor areas. 6rugrats Posted January 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 9, 2011 On all cruises I've taken, smoking was allowed on the aft deck on the, I think, starboard side. You will know where it's allowed, as there will be ashtrays on the tables. Cigars and cigarettes allowed.
susiesan Posted November 7, 2011 #3 Share Posted November 7, 2011 I am contemplating booking a 7 day Windstar cruise Barcelona to Lisbon for Oct. 2012 or a 12 day Rome to Lisbon cruise on the Royal Clipper for Oct. 2012. I sailed on the Star Clipper in Thailand in 2008, and one thing I did not like was all the smoking all over the ship. Because there were a majority of Europeans on board and they all smoke so much, there was smoking on all open decks of the ship. I could never even sit at the outside bar without being downwind of someone's smoke. The smoking somewhat ruined the Star Clipper experience for me. Do many smoking Europeans sail on Windstar? Is the limited smoking area enforced? it sure wasn't on the Star Clipper.
stcruise Posted November 7, 2011 #4 Share Posted November 7, 2011 This is Windstar's policy: Smoking is not permitted in any of the staterooms or public spaces, including all restaurants and corridors. Smoking is permitted on the outside decks in designated smoking areas only. I sailed on the Wind Spirit earlier this year and the smokers on board did adhere to the policy of only smoking in designated areas on the deck. I never did see anyone smoking outside of those areas, so whether it would be enforced, I can't really say. All staterooms are non-smoking and I think it would be very difficult for someone to smoke in their room and it not be noticed, especially since there are no balconies and no large windows to try to air the smoke out. Wind Spirit is a small ship and the deck is not that large so there is not a lot of separation between the smoking and non-smoking area and depending on the wind smoke could certainly blow into non-smoking areas. So if you are alergic to or extremely bothered by smoke, the smaller ship might not be for you. If you just find it unpleasant, I don't think it would be a big concern. Since Wind Star is a sister ship, the experience would probably be quite similar. Maybe someone who has experienced smoking on the Wind Surf could enlighten you on what the experience is on the larger ship.
6rugrats Posted November 7, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 7, 2011 Do many smoking Europeans sail on Windstar? Is the limited smoking area enforced? it sure wasn't on the Star Clipper. I never had a problem on any of the Windstar ships with smoking, and it's not just the "smoking Europeans"; Americans were also smoking. It's always been confined to just a few tables in the designated smoking area, and it's easy to avoid it.
English_in_Spain Posted November 13, 2011 #6 Share Posted November 13, 2011 On our 6 Windstar cruises (all in Mediterranean or Greek Isles) we have found there are very few Europeans - mostly Americans. Windstar is not really known here in Europe. In the last few years there has been no smoking in any inside areas. It has been only on one side of outside decks and not near the Verandah where food is served. When we first cruised Windstar smoking was allowed in the casino but no longer.
