Bebet Posted January 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2011 What does this mean? We are sailing to Alaska from Seattle. On our itenerary it lists Glacier Bay national Park 6am to 3pm. does that mean a stop or we will be sailing through that area?
Toto2Kansas Posted January 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2011 It the itinerary only says scenic cruising, then you won't stop in any port, you will just sail through that area.
cruisehappi Posted January 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2011 You will enter Glacier Bay around 6am, sail to Margerie Glacier, turn around and come back, exiting the bay around 3pm, passing numerous other glaciers along the way. A Park Ranger will hop on board at the mouth of the bay and will narrate your passage, pointing out the glaciers and wildlife. Make sure you get a good spot on deck if you don't have a balcony. It doesn't matter which side of the ship you're on, because you return the same way you went in. IMHO, Glacier Bay was the best day of our Alaskan cruise, and I'll never forget it. Rare Kinkacruiser Posted January 14, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2011 The ship will slow speed and you'll have everyone on top deck photgraphing the breathtaking scenery. Balconies are an added advantage here.
RickEk Posted January 14, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 14, 2011 Yes, scenic cruising (on a good day) is very spectacular. The following picture is of Marjorie Glacier from Sea Princess on a glorious day last July... Yukon Posted January 15, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 15, 2011 Balconies are an added advantage here. ... if you want a very cozy look at less than half of what's out there :)
5326jan Posted January 15, 2011 #10 Share Posted January 15, 2011 Every person should have their own set of binoculars. This is not a good day to share!:) Hat, gloves, scarf, long underwear, knee socks, and chapstick. You won't know whether to use camera or binocs b/c you won't want to miss a second! The ranger is excellent and you'll see a lot of wildlife cruising into and out of glacier bay. We saw a bear feeding on a whale carcass.
