We have never cruised to Alaska before so we thought we would take a trip from Seattle. We are going to arrive in Seattle 2 days before departure so we can do some sight seeing there. ANY suggestions? Also, I would love some suggestions on the shore excursions. Is it better to book through Holland American or book independently? I have heard you need a coat and you don't need a coat. I am trying to pack all into one large suitcase. Please help.

We always take our zippered lined Gortex coats no matter what month we cruise Alaska -- weather there can change so quickly. Best to dress in layers.
