Ms belp Posted January 20, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2011 Since it's a full moon tonight, I was wondering if anyone has checked to see if they will have a full moon over the water on their upcoming cruise? So romantic. If I knew the dates for the year I'd try to book one to coincide with the moon.:)
bigfig63 Posted January 20, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2011 How ironic. I just checked that tonight as a matter of fact. On the Epic on the last night at sea (18th) there is a full moon. Excellant way to end the cruise.:)

bluesea777 Posted January 20, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 20, 2011 Full Moons this year (2011) per my calendar:January 4, February 3, March 4, April 3, May 3, June 1, July 1, July 30 (Blue), August 29, September 27, October 26, November 25, December 24. These are the NEW Moon dates not Full Moon. The moon goes dark on these dates. We were on the NCL SUN South America when we had the BLUE Moon on 31 Dec 2009 - lovely way to end the year of 2009!! kurdav Posted January 20, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 20, 2011 we had a full moon on our last sea day of our November Spirit cruise. It was beautiful to see the moon on one side of the ship and the sun setting on the other side.
electricron Posted January 20, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 20, 2011 I've got to learn to read my calendars better  Believe it or not, I had it right and second guess myself. Thanks for the corrections. :o
zimmerjulie Posted January 20, 2011 #10 Share Posted January 20, 2011 Funny, I always check to see if there will be a full moon. I am usually restricted to school holidays for my cruise dates so I can't choose my sailing based on it, but there is almost always a full moon during my cruises. Also, it never rains on embarkation day. Just lucky I guess. I'll never forget watching the full moon set into the Pacific....an absolutely indescribable and humbling experience. momoftwinteens Posted January 20, 2011 #11 Share Posted January 20, 2011 It turns out that I will be sailing during a full moon. My question concerns the photographing of the moon. Any tips or suggestions from my fellow photography buffs? My camera is one where I can set the F-stop and apperature manually, if I so desire. Intrepid Posted January 21, 2011 #13 Share Posted January 21, 2011 While I love a full moon, a new moon offers more and brighter stars. This is my way of saying that every night sky is wonderful on a cruise!

Freckles_51 Posted January 21, 2011 #15 Share Posted January 21, 2011 I never checked the calendar but on my first cruise, first night before going to bed I stepped out onto the balcony to find a full moon, its reflection glistening on the ocean, and the lights of another cruise ship in the distance....breathtaking! :)
Ask4Jay Posted January 21, 2011 #16 Share Posted January 21, 2011 We always hope tp catch a full moon on our cruises.. This one is the best of a series. I tried with flash and without flash. Without flash we just had the moon hanging in mid-sky, without any foreground to add depth. We were on the Jewel from Miami tp Athens. Since we were in a stern cabin, there was no chance to catch a moon rise, so I settled for a setting moon next morning from our balcony. @momoftwins - On a moving ship you can't set the exposure too long. I presume you have a digital camera? Just fire away with all kinds of settings. (Photography without guilt).
BikerAl Posted January 22, 2011 #17 Share Posted January 22, 2011 We have intentionally sailed when a full moon is scheduled, but for the past few years, have tried to enjoy other celestial events, like meteor showers. Here is a web site which lists them all by date. http://www.seasky.org/astronomy/astronomy_calendar_2011.html Al
Tmeister Posted January 23, 2011 #18 Share Posted January 23, 2011 In about 10 cruises, we've had very few clear nights, even if the weather had been clear during the day and it was clear the next day as well. We've sailed during may full moons but have never been rewarded with a beautiful moonrise.

CRUISEBUG1 Posted January 24, 2011 #20 Share Posted January 24, 2011 we never planned our cruises around a full moon but we have been very lucky and have had a full moon on almost every cruise we have been on.
