Things are different on the Dream.

Can parents/grandparents stay and watch their children in the kids' clubs/areas? (My DIL is hesitant to leave our granddaughters with strangers in charge, and I read a review that said some of the areas like mini golf are adult-free.)

Mini golf is in the sports zone and open to everyone. Adults can play, families can play, kids can play...

As for the kids club, that is an area to drop off the kids and is adult free. They did have a "family time" in the morning on the preview cruise I did, but I am not sure if that is a normal thing or not.

Thanks for the info. I was concerned that there would not be enough for grandparents to do if we could not go to the sports area with the kids.

"12. The Aquaduck is a BLAST! Know that they prefer 2 people to ride at a time and that keeps the line moving. You can wear your sunglasses on the ride and be prepared because that water is cold! Don't go crazy trying to bring a camera on the ride until you've done it once and know what to expect. The best part is that you get to board the raft on a dry surface so you don't look like a total mess until you need to get out of the raft in a chute filled with gushing water. This is not a dry ride! :D"

How were the lines on the Aquaduck?

We waited 40 minutes, but to be honest, it went by quickly because everyone was having fun watching people go by in the tubes or disembarking at the end. The only time you really can't see anything is when you enter the funnel and go up the first flight up stairs. Once you start up the second flight, you can watch people as they board the rafts.

Not all of the bars were open during our cruise but we didn't notice any smoking in the ones we sampled.

We visited all the bars on our cruise (got off of her yesterday) -- there was no smoking in any of them. In fact, I didn't really experience smoke ANYWHERE on the ship but that could have been just our sailing -- I know they are limiting the smoking areas.

We loved the Aqua Duck as well - not a WILD ride per se - but lots of fun.

I found the Quiet Cove pool area was not as user-friendly as the Wonder - much more limited in its lay-out and if you want to sun right next to the pool? Probably not going to happen.

The other thing I was concerned about is the spa - got a treatment that was quite nice (hot stone massage) but heard about LOTS of inconsistency with other guests -- a couple of my co-sailors paid for the exact same treatment but all of them had completely different experiences -- this was the "seaweed" treatment where they were supposed to "float" you afterwards -- some of the 75 min. treatments were floated, some weren't. They also charged some people an extra $16 to use Rainforest on top of your treatment charge (it's included in the Wonder treatments, I believe - someone correct me if I'm wrong here), some people were charged $15 only and if you were IN the rooms? It's impossible to tell who paid and who's just helping themselves - no wristband, etc. I suspect there will be some complaints about the spa when this first "official" cruise gets back...just a guess...

We did get to both Palo AND Remy and both were great - Remy is really just unbelievable....

They were made for us -- it was a different kind of cruise -- my advice would be to just keep checking -- also, make sure you check again the day you board - head directly to the D Lounge on Deck 4 - I know that people were able to book on our cruise. Good luck - I hope you get in!! It was fantastic!

Thanks for all the details. The ship sounds great, with lots of new innovations.

Clarify one thing for me; the card-key-to-turn-on-the-electricity part. Does this just control the lighting, or does it also control the outlets and/or air conditioner ? I'm thinking if it turns off the outlets, you're out of luck if you want to charge camera batteries or such while you're out of the room.

Also, any info on the pools, specifically the adults-only pool ? I've read elsewhere that the pool is considerably smaller than the ones on Magic/Wonder.

Yes, when your key card is removed, then the outlets and a/c stop working. But we found out that you can use any key with a magnetic strip, you don't need to use your room key. Many folks used their KTTW card from WDW, but we had a Taco Bell gift card in ours! We usually would lift the card out when we left the room, and the TV would automatically turn off, and the lights would turn off after about 30 seconds.

The adult pool area is pitiful.

Thanks for all the info! I'm kind of sorry to hear about the towels - one of the things I really loved about Disney was both receiving and returning towels off-ship, so there was no need to cart them around onboard or worry about fees for losing them. Seems like there were a lot of "towel return" boxes scattered near the restrooms on Castaway Cay; guess they have gotten rid of those if they want towels brought back to the rooms. What about onboard, by the pools and slides, are there still towels available there or do you have to bring the ones from your room?

There are still towels available readily on deck. After you get the initial 2, you can still get them by the pool. I think the main reason they deliver the towels in the mesh bag is to keep people from taking the room towels ashore. I don't remember seeing any towels or return bins on Castaway Cay, but I wasn't looking as we just got off to take some photos and have lunch.

And your taco bell card was fine then right? Didn't demagnitize it? I was thinking of throwing a giftcard in too, but didn't want it to come up empty later on

I notice some of these posts were left on 23 Jan. But I thought the Dream didn't take its first passengers until 26 Jan?

Dream did several "preview" cruises for travel agents, website operators, VIPs and even one Boys and Girls Club cruise between the time she arrived on Jan 4 and the true inaugural cruise on Jan 26.

I'm figuring on taking a few of our old resort and cruise KTTW cards. If they somehow get demagnetized (which I doubt), no biggie.

The Maiden voyage was the 26th. This was the 1st cruise with real paying passengers (what they consider a revenue generating cruise).

Prior to that there were charity cruises, media and travel agent by invitation cruise, and cruises for certain Disney company employees.

I think you will find the concierge experience a nice one. I had a regular verandah room - but, noticed a few neat things - perks that the concierge guests had. 1. Easy check in - private line. First guests escorted onboard. 2. They now have private areas - card key access only. Gated. The concierge section and rooms were gated off, as well as a lounge and a private outdoor area - all key access. I am sure there were quite a few more perks - these are the ones I noticed.

:)

We'll be in a 1BR concierge cabin in the fall. When we cruised in this category on the Magic I did a very detailed report that included approximate room dimensions, and details on where power outlets were located. I'll do it again if no one does one between now and then.
