Debsta Posted January 26, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2011 Attracted your attention? :p Rhapsody cruise DVD..........I just watched it.......it's a disgrace! Dat is all :D OK I'll elaborate....apart from the very very very poor quality....95% of it is selling the cruiseline, other people's cruises, activities and their port videos and a ship tour selling the damn ship!...............seriously, hardly anything of OUR onboard activities........well except the Abba show...I missed that.....boy, I can sing better than them and I'm tone deaf LOL! P&O win the cruise DVD hands down! OK, dat really is all!
yamcrzr Posted January 26, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2011 OMG thats disappointing. Its not meant to be an advertorial but a memoir. I was only thinking today that I didnt get one and wished i'd had. Not so anymore. Cheers Sharon

And they've worked out a good way of ripping you off by splitting it, unneccessarily, into 2 DVDs and doubling the price. And they outright lie to you when they tell you that you can't film the shows, but if you buy the DVD you'll see them. You might see the vision of some shows, but they'll be overdubbed with a porn movie sound track. We've stopped buying them.

We weren't told they'd be on the DVDs, either. On our last Feb cruise they had 3 DVDs - One was of the passengers and events on the ship, one was the ports and I can't remember what the other was. We just bought the first one and it was quite good with a fairly good coverage of events. Last June cruise you had to buy the two - couldn't buy just one. We didn't feel the need to spend the money on them. Once is enough. :)
thied Posted January 26, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 26, 2011 I am sorry to hear about your disapointment about the cruise DVD. We have bought all the cruise DVD's from all our cruises if they were selling them. The P&O one's are quite good, but still alot to do selling the cruise line and still like to watch them and a great laugh at people we see on them. cheeky_minx Posted January 26, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 26, 2011 Hiya Debsta I agree. We bought one on the Legend and most of it was stock footage including all the port highlights - and those and the couple of bits of our actual cruise were really poor quality, the stock footage were 'stills that had been animated' wasnt even video. The cruise highlights: late night dancing/parties with poor lighting etc.. - have seen better from passenger phone cameras. really disappointing as we usually like to watch them every now and again and remember all the poeple we met on board The ones on the Sun Princess (both cruises) were much better - video guys from the ship went on the actual shore excursions - the more popular ones - and a much larger proportion of the DVD was our 'live' cruidse - sure the ship footage was standard but far more of the actual cruise passengers, shore excursions and activities - plus less of the commercial 'sell job'. A better quality DVD We wont be buying another RCI one ... Jane
karmac Posted January 26, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 26, 2011 We have one of every one of our P&O cruises and I love them. The only thing I don't like about them is the background music they play. I think, when they are showing the theme nights they should play the appropriate music.
The_Big_M Posted January 26, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 26, 2011 Unfortunately, Celebrity video staff do the same. Ports of call mostly from previous visits, only a few onboard activities (true, time is a factor, but it does make it even less likely to have something you saw) and the stock promo with other staff and crew interspliced. With the tour/talk on our one, the dodgy music was dubbed so loudly you couldn't even hear the captain talk! Checked out the Rhapsody DVD this time around and saw the same thing happening... my advice, avoid - unless you just want to get as many memories as possible. Wilkono Posted January 27, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 27, 2011 This kind of annoys me. As far as I know, most ships have a professional or semi-professional videographer on board, and from my background in filmmaking, I can't think of any reason why they couldn't create a DVD using original footage in the amount of time that they have. But I guess it comes down to the requirements made by the company, and not a limit on the videographers experience. I'm sure they could put together a masterpiece if they wanted to, but cruise companies would prefer to advertise, and make us pay for them in the process! Hi, I agree the DVD,S on RCI are very poor compared to P&O and Princess.I always purchase a DVD of all my cruises and copy them for the others we cruise with....its kind of a tradition I have. Both my DVD from RCI have been horrid to say the least. The best ones I have are from Princess.I sure hope the Radiance of the Seas Dvd is better but i doubt it.Its funny with all DVD,s the action on the night looks great but when you see Island nite and other events shown with background music ...it really wrecks the fun the actual nite was.......if i was contemplating going on my first cruise and saw one of those DVD,s it would make me think twice. I was surprised to see you could film the Pacific Cirque shows and the Laser Shows. The other thing I found frustrating was at the theme nights, the ship's videographer kept getting in the way of anyone else who wanted to film. I tried videoing the Village People on the Christmas Cruise, and the cameran kept walking in front of them to get close ups, etc. So all my footage has the camerman in it! I was surprised to see you could film the Pacific Cirque shows and the Laser Shows. It's the same on land - a flash may distract performers, and video-ing is 'verboten' because of copyright, even for children's performances in eisteddfodau and concerts!!! The other thing I found frustrating was at the theme nights, the ship's videographer kept getting in the way of anyone else who wanted to film. I had a similar problem on the tchou tchou train in Noumea! Most of my photos taken while the train was moving have a lady's elbow in them. She was taking the same photos!! :D
