Booze prices exorbitant

I don't drink beer, so can't comment on those prices, but the cost of a mixed drink on board seems about like what I would pay here in Seattle, or less.

And my gosh, what some of the places charge on Ocean Drive in miami, there would be a mutiny if people saw charges like that on their sail & sign account.

I spend quite a bit of time on South Beach throughout the year and you're absolutely right! But I love those huge 30 dollar drinks! And they usually have them half off. For 15 bucks its a pretty good deal to me.

I have no issue with the drink prices on Carnival...I feel they are in line with drink prices everywhere else. I'm curious as to how much some of you who think the prices are high pay for drinks in your hometown? No flames, I'm genuinely curious.

If you are ordering vodka, gin, etc. be sure to specify that you want the HOUSE brand. Otherwise you will more than likely get one of their premium brands at a higher cost.

Also check your receipt, as I have found on more than one occasion (especially by the pools) even if you ask for house brand, they will bring you the premium brand. If it is not what you ordered, send it back.

Cheers

They don't have "house brands". Go to unofficial carnival wiki for Bar menus. They sell only branded booze.

Also, if you order the Classic Long Island Iced Tea, those things are soooo strong that if you order it with no ice, you could pour half in another glass and add some soda and get 2 drinks for the price of one!

Wouldn't that be nice.....

But not true.

A shot is a shot is a shot...whether it's poured over ice or poured in a glass.

They don't pour until the glass is full...they pour according to the ingredients needed, shot by shot.

That's why I love Mexico.....you can get a bucket of 6 beers on the beach for $13.00.......

The sounds like Cozumel prices, not Mexico. :p Next time try Progreso. ;)

It's not the price, it's the pour. And Carnival's pour is chintzy.

I am a platinum Carnival cruise beer drinker and have not seen a beer that cheap in a couple years now.....sure it wasn't a 12 oz bud/bud light in the can for $4.95? They still have them if you ask (although they don't advertise) on several ships but not all.......

12 oz bud/budlight is 3.95 ++ tax. Most beer is 4.95 unless you order the 16 oz including the imports.

Just got back from Valor cruise 1/16-1/23. Alchol was outragoeuos! A bucket of beer (which is 4) was $22.00.

Classic cocktails: $8.25 (mai tai, margarita, mojitos, sex on beach)

Capt and coke: $9.00

Drink of day $7.50

plus 15% grats on each one of those!

Well, Valor must have some sort of special permission to charge these prices.

I was on the Pride those same dates and here, from the bar menu I brought home...and online at carniva wiki, are the prices...

Unless you bought your classic cocktails in a 15 oz souvenir hurricane glass, those drinks are 5.75 frozen. Specialty drinks in regular glass is 4.95. Capt Morgan 5.75.... DOD 4.95...morning specials...3.95.

I don't know if this menu is up to date. The Specialty Drinks do not list Kiss on the Lips, Long Island Ice Tea (these are currently on the Specialty Drink Menu) also it should add that if you order a specialty drink that you get $5 casino chip, just adding to the list - lol. The price is not $4.95 for these anymore.

Well, they obviously have changed since 1/16 when we were on the Pride....

I live on the outskirts of Houston. Now we don't go to "nice" resturants but we do eat out. I know which nights to go on.....

However if we go to Pappasittos (which we love) the drinks are more. However, I still pay $4.95 for a house marg. and hubby pays 3.50 for a beer.

Obviously, you are not familiar with a Long Island Iced Tea so I will enlighten you...

The ingredients for a Long Island Iced Tea is...gin, vodka, rum, tequilla, and triple sec filled to just about the top, shot by shot.leaving enough room for a splash of soda..so it is in fact filled full...one of the strongest drinks made.

So, yes, it is true..and very strong...and worth every penny...and can be split into 2 drinks, for those who can't handle the potency.

In the Chicago Subs at most bars 2.50-3.00 imports 3.00 - 3.50 12 oz beer/ 2.25 drafts

now live in Augusta 2.50 12 beers 3.00 for imports drafts well depends but about 2.00 Sunday specials at some places stuff like blue moon at 1.75 a 12 ox bottle bloody marys/ white russians 1.75

I drink Smirnoff/sky with red bull - 3.50 for the vodka most bars 4.75 for a red bull mixer not the can. but a screwdriver around 3.50 -4.50 unless its some fancy place .. the high dollar restaurant we go to my drinks are 9.25 and its some off brand fake red bull and kettle one

I think the prices are kinda high but in line with a ball game or theme park. 5.75 for a 16 oz isn't bad its that auto 15% on every drink thats crap ... I tip and well even add extra cash on the ship for bar/wait staff every drink but the 15% ticks me off just show the price total and say tip included.

this cruise I will be using BV for a bottle I have smuggled no issues on other trips but waste a lot as i don't want to bring it home in rum runners last trip the room Steward got about a liter from me and was very grateful for it.

will I smuggle this trip maybe some rum just to have to freshen up some DOD s ;)

I did not know the classics were doubles if they pour true 2oz then it is a great price but i don't think they are

DH and I have always smuggled. We have the Rum Runners. We last used them on NCL in Hawaii and didn't use all of our contraband! I'm not excited to use them on the next cruise. Now that I'm older, I don't drink as much anymore. I am thinking about purchasing a bottle of Rum and Scotch from Bon voyage. I do like my beer and will be ordering by the bucket!

That is an old bar menu. The cheapest beer now is 4.96 Blue Moon and the most expensive domestic is Bud Light Lime 6.25

Well, lucky for me the Pride is still using the "old" menu as of 12/05/10...because the 12oz Bud is only $3.95. ;)

Princess has the following specials after 8 pm. It would be nice if Carnival would do something like this.

  • All house spirits at 2.99
  • Piña Coladas, Singapore Slings and Long Island Iced Tea at 2.99
  • Dos Equis, Becks, Miller and Miller Lite beer at 2.99

It seems clear that whether you think Carnival prices are "exorbitant" or not depends on where you live

(or drink):D

In Canada ,specifically Montreal ,I would be satisfied to always pay Carnival booze prices.

Except for happy hour deals ,it's cheaper to drink on board then at most bars and restaurants.

Even bon voyage prices are not much higher then we are stuck with.

Count your blessings:rolleyes:

It's a splash of "coke" not soda. You also forgot the sweet and sour mix.....
