I have a couple questions....We are planing on a tour with Victor Bodden in the Roatan. I was wanting to go some place to eat while there but I don't want to get sick from water, food etc. Has anyone had a problem? Would it be ok to drink the water or soda at the resturant? Any suggestions on places to eat while there. Does Carnival have a way to mail postcards from the ship? Has anyone done the cave tubing the Belize that Carnival offers? What did you think? Thanks!

Our Family of 9 went on a Victor Bodden tour this past October. Our driver's name was McDonald I believe. We had the best time ziplining and touring. We asked him to take us somewhere for a good lunch, just do not remember the name now. The food was so good and we bought bottled water and coke there. The place was packed and a little slow, but we sure enjoyed ourselves.

he was planning on taking us to eat in west end, but no one wanted to spend the time sitting in a restaurant eating .. but he will have good ideas for where to eat. We too loved him, well his driver a lot.

Iv eaten in ports. Americans go and stay in Roatan, it is a great destination. .. Im sure they have to be eating at more than where they stay, so it must be safe.

We did the Belize water tubing through a private tour outfit and it was great except that the water can be very cold. Well worth going through that big cave though. We ate and had drinks at Roatan with no problems so maybe you could avoid a glass of water and get bottled water. The food is good and we enjoyed both stops.

I wanted to see the park in Belize with the inland Blue Hole but didn't want to miss tubing that cave. The cave tubing took quite a bit of time so it may be best to book through Carnival. Roatan has a nice beach park and the food is fairly good if you wanted a beach day.

General suggestions when traveling is don't drink the water, don't use ice, and generally avoid salads or fruit that isn't peeled. Other than that you shouldn't have a problem with the food. And these suggestions are not just because the water, etc, may be unsafe but because it likely contains flora and fauna that is different from what you have at home and this can disrupt your system. But by taking these simple precautions and going to reasonable places you can eat with impunity. And for me at least, a good part of traveling someplace is the opportunity to try new local foods.

Soda is fine...just don't add ice! Don't eat anything "fresh"....lettuce, or unpeeled fruit...that may have been washed in water.

Cooked foods are fine...and anything pre-packaged, sealed, etc...are ok, too... your tour guide would NOT be in business long if his "guests" got ill! Don't stress about it!

we did cave tubing in Dec 2009 with Major Tom - it was AMAZING. The water is 60 degrees year round. All I have ever heard is that the cruiselines used to pack as many people as possible in each tour -- which is why someone died 2 years ago and the cruise lines subsequently cancelled the cave tubing excursion. But Major Tom only allows 8 people per tour guide & they are very safety conscious. It was AMAZING!!!!! You do walk a bit, but it was very enjoyable.
