anarresa Posted February 15, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2011 Hi, My companions are going to visit Madame Toussaud's and wax figures freak me out. I was thinking of getting my cheesy tourist fun at the Sherlock Homes Museum nearby. Has anyone been? Or could recommend something else in the area? I also noticed the Sherlock Holmes Pub mentioned in relation to a discount meal with a tour bus. Is that fun with reasonably-priced non-coupon food? Thanks for any info. If you buy a ticket on the Original London Tour Bus for at least a one day pass, you can purchase a Fish and Chips lunch or early dinner (you have to order before 6:00PM) at the Sherlock Holmes Pub. Now this will not be the best Fish and Chips dinner you may eat in London, but it is adequate and you are really paying for the atmosphere of the pub. Since visiting this particular pub was on my 'wish' list on coming to London, this was just a great deal. (The Fish and Chips meal is 3 pounds with the coupon, and 6 pounds without it, or something like that). The Pub, to us, was great, since I am a huge Holmes fanatic. They also have a small museum upstairs and they also sell a few souvenirs of the pub. Here are a few of my pix of the Sherlock Holmes Pub http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europept2315.jpg http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europept2136-1.jpg http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europept2321.jpg http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europept2323.jpg http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europept2135-1.jpg Cheers Len

Morgans Posted February 16, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2011 The Sherlock Holmes museum is quite interesting and there's a good shop on the bottom floor for London souvenirs. It isn't a large museum and isn't too expensive. As I recall each room demonstrates scenes from a selection of the stories but there are a few figures dressed up as characters so be aware if you feel these may freak you out. It's a very short walk from Baker Street tube station -turn right as you come out of the tube and then right again. If you just want a pleasant explore or walk then you could try turning left out of the tube, past Madame Tussauds and then left again. This will bring you to Regents Park and the Gardens. It's a beautiful part of London (the Rose Garden) and anyone who just would like a gentle and quiet stroll in peaceful surroundings will love it - it's also totally free to enjoy. There's a nice little cafe where you can sit and watch the world go by.

To be honest, the Pub was very crowded, and we were happy to get a table. But the meal was good and the 'pint' was great. I guess I'll have to go back, just for the pix.
