Dan Askin Posted February 20, 2011 #176 Share Posted February 20, 2011 Update from Carnival: The guests will receive a 30 percent refund of their cruise fare and the modified 4-day cruise is visiting Progreso and not Cozumel.
Multi-Cruiser Posted February 20, 2011 #177 Share Posted February 20, 2011 We went through a similar experience las April when we sailed on VOS out of Galveston. Fog delayed return of all ships, but we finally were able to board about 6 pm and the ship departed about midnight. Not a 2 day delay, but frustrating none the less. I don't think I'll sail out of Galveston again.

nonna5 Posted February 20, 2011 #181 Share Posted February 20, 2011 I have sailed on the Ecstasy 11 times and have only been delayed one time and the was very early in December. Saying you will never cruise out of a port because of a weather delay is ridiculous, in my opinion.

Have you been to Progreso, it's really a sweet little town with a fun beach! Golfing Dan Posted February 21, 2011 #187 Share Posted February 21, 2011 I am sitting in a small pizza place continuing to wait on the Ecstasy. My "vacation" started 42 hours ago when I left my home by car from Oklahoma. I understand problems with weather, but the lack of communication from Carnival is appalling. Carnival can regularly send emails to me to sell excursions, etc but cannot seem to do so to notify 2000 stranded customers. Really? This website is the only REAL information that we have been able to trust. You cannot believe the lines of people waiting to board the Conquest and VOS. The VOS passengers were standing outside by the railway cars in a line the was probably 200 yards long and it was starting to get dark. The carnival website update procedure is nothing short of laughable. Because of the lack of real information from Carnival, the rumors were running rampant. I spent $175 to get what appeared to be the last hotel room in Galveston and have now spent about $125 on food. We stayed in the hotel as long as possible and simply want to get on the ship. My wife and I are simply tired. It looks like we will board by 10 pm and be on our way after midnight. Again, this is major Carnival communication problem. Raven Days Posted February 21, 2011 #188 Share Posted February 21, 2011 There has been a update to the last update and it as follows- we will update you soon. LOL. I can tell you that there a long line of buses outside waiting for us. So far everyone seems calm and just tired.

capndinghy Posted February 21, 2011 #191 Share Posted February 21, 2011 I do hope that all of you Ecstasy Passengers are boarding now. We were on the inbound and were off of your ship at 12:30 pm. She is at pier 10,which is abojt 1/2 mile east of the cruise terminal. Every was bussed to tje terminal after disembarking this afternoon. I was surprised things went as well as they did in the disembark process. I commend Carnival for for doing a good jib under trying circumstances. ie 2 ships late needeing a quick turn. Y understanding was that Ecstasy passenngers would be bussed to pier 10' starting at 9PM. I think they decidedmto turn Comquest first, then Ecstasy. I know all of the poor ECSTAST PASSENIGERS ARE now over one day late departing. Have a good trip and enjoy. PS..We are platinum, so were off first. I will be curious to hear just how long it took every one to get off the boat.

luv2trvlnow Posted February 21, 2011 #193 Share Posted February 21, 2011 Not sure anybody is going to get out of there tonight. It looks like the fog is rolling in again. It sure is a mess. Doesn't sound like communication is any better from RCL. I checked on their board and they are asking if anybody had check this board to see if there is information here. On one web cam, it appears to be raining hard and/or foggy. On another, it doesn't seem that bad. So what's the weather like there?
BallFour4 Posted February 21, 2011 #196 Share Posted February 21, 2011 Hmmm... I'm sure' date=' at this point, those ships unable to get in would be much more concerned about resupplying the ship than "a fresh supply of cash".... I'm sure the delay in being able to disembark current passengers, screwing up their travel plans - and those waiting to board, losing time at sea consumes much more time and energy than "cash"....[/color'] I'm equally sure that none of us fully appreciate the resulting monumental problems delays like this cause for the company, the passengers, the longshoremen, the crew and staff. I don't think "cash" is an issue. Fine. We think different, not the first time. Passengers frustrated with being "stuck" versus traveling home are less likely to spend their cash, and with the ship in close the casino is closed anyway. What you"think" about my posts don't make them wrong. .
MicksMom Posted February 21, 2011 #197 Share Posted February 21, 2011 We were delayed boarding the Conquest 2 years ago due to fog. We were only delayed about 6 hours & Carnival was only dealing with 1 ship... we decided to just hang out outside to terminal. Made great friends with the people around us. DD had friends on RCCL, we were already on board & they were stuck in a line of cars just trying to get to the terminal to drop off luggage after 7pm. We sailed late that evening & had no problem getting to our ports. Can't even begin to imagine what all has to be done to get that many people through customs, unload luggage, load supplies & luggage... I would be frustrated too but Carnival can't control the weather.
Cindy Posted February 21, 2011 #198 Share Posted February 21, 2011 I guess I'm surprised the Conquest is still here. I wonder if there were problems with provisioning/shore staff/longshoremen since there were three ships in today. It doesn't take this long to turn the Conquest on a normal Sunday.

Cindy, a couple people on the Galveston.com thread have been saying a tug hit the side of the Conquest....don't know for sure if it is true...but one lady said her son saw it and heard it......so maybe that is the reason....who knows. I feel for all of them.
capndinghy Posted February 21, 2011 #200 Share Posted February 21, 2011 Folks I am NOT a sea man. I have been told they need 1 Mile visibility to navigate in the harbor. I was on the Ecstasy today as an in bound passenger. As a former airline pilot I can say i estimated the vis at 1/4 mile or less when the port was closed to inbound ship arrivals. I hope I am not the bearer of bad news...but I suspect 1 mile vis. is important. I do hoe everuone on all 3 ships gets to wave farewell tonight as their shipsnsail.
