CAS Slot Tournament invitational

@TracyE and beau4: you're welcome!

@ BurtonRiderT6: Slot tourneys are run on pure luck. Sometimes your entry fee is pre-paid while other times you buy-in. Once you register, they sit you in groups at a time at promotional machines. They then run a timer (usually 3-5 minutes) where you smack your spin button as fast as you can and hope to ring up as many winning combinations during that period. When the timer runs out, the scores are revealed and tallied. Generally you need a score of 4k+ to hope to qualify for something. There are several variations on all this, but those are the basics.

They are indeed fun in that you really have no control over what happens, you meet some great people to cheer on even if you don't win, and it creates some excitement buzz in the casino if only for a little while. The downsides are when you have to pay a heftier fee to enter and get a dud machine...or when you're losing your shirt at the cluster of slots near the promotional machines and just want to strangle all those involved in the hoopla of the tourney, lol.

@xray121995: I don't know yet the specifics, there was too much happening today IRL for me to reach someone during CaS's designated hours (which are: Mon-Fri 9am - 5:30pm EST). I plan to call Monday and will post if no one hasn't by then.

The brochure (to me) is a bit vague on alot of aspects. It seems to suggest you pay $200 up front for the tourney and your room gets comped, but it isn't well written and doesn't mention what type of room. Actually, what it says is: "You'll cruise for free with your tournament fee of $200 per invited guest..." so does that mean if my husband and I go, only my fare will be comped (since he's not a CaS member)? Small print says the complimentary offer only applies to 1st and 2nd guest (but is in reference to 3rd and 4th people in the room having to pay reduced rate), so I don't know, lol.

I plan to book tomorrow. Just received our invite today. What type room were you offered and for how much? Can't wait for morning. What time does CAS open?

Called & was told that anyone who got an invite was given a Balcony room.

Cost is $291 p.p. in taxes & fees, plus the $200 tournament fee ONLY for the invited guest (not for the 2nd guest).

The $200 gets you into the tournament, plus $100 in regular slot play.

I wanted to upgrade to a penthouse, but it was over $2500 AFTER the comp.... (for 2).

Pure craziness. Still booked on the Gem, for now....thinking about this.

Basically it's a $100 lottery ticket.....but then, I've bought those before too.... I didn't ask if my travelling companion can join the tournament (for $100) or only the invitee...

Anyone know?

I can't believe how much the upgrade is!! That is ridiculous. On their website an SG penthouse for the 10/22 Sun cruise is $1949 pp with the SE being $2500pp. The balcony rooms are $729pp. Suddenly this isn't sounding like the greatest deal.

It depends on which ship was inquired about. The Epic costs alot more to sail on than the other ships. We were on the Epic in January would have loved to sail her again, but airfare is just too high and don't really want to vacation so soon again. The Sun is much cheaper, but I'd rather go on vacation in October since I just went in January, so I just booked for the Sun. The port fees and taxes I was quoted were around 260. Depends again on what ports you sail to. So I guess we need to take that all into consideration. I consider it a great value, and it will be fun. I love sailing.

I was referring to the Sun, too. Ludicrous upgrade pricing.

Thanks for the updated info!

My husband isnt a fan of NCL, and with so many poor reviews of the Sun since Jan 2011, this will still be a challenge for me to sell him on the idea, even with the deal offered. I'm definitely drawn to the October sailing out of Orlando, mostly for the ports and getting to sail a different route, so we'll see.

Sorry I should have mentioned that this is for the Sun also sailing in October. At any rate, think I will just wait and see when and if the offer comes in the mail.

Just need 49 others to beat.... :)

Didn't bother with the upgrade, can use the $2500 in the casino! :)

We'll be there with you, too. My husband was the one invited so I'll be there cheering him on.

Looking forward to this.

Just cruised late January on the EPIC, it was a great ship. Hoping to have fun on the SUN, too. Any day on the ocean is a great day.

See you then.

I rec'd my invite yesterday; under the terms and conditions it says "The complimentary cruise accommodation is only valid for the first and second guest." Under How to Enter it clearly says: "You'll cruise for free with your tournament fee of $200 per invited guest". That adds up to $400.00 if my math is correct. So my (dumb) question is how does that translate to $299. 15 per person PLUS the $200 buy in when I am the only invited guest???

Gratuities are NOT included. Drink card IS included.

Cost is $800 to get on for 2 ..... GREAT PRICE !

Kitty, I am hoping you can answer my question above. Thanks.

I don't know if Kitty can answer your question, but I can...even though I wasn't asked.

Only the person whose name is on the invitation is an Invited Guest. The 2nd person sharing their cabin is THEIR guest.

So the cost for 2 is ($299 x 2) + ($200 x 1) = 800.

Hello -

See the fine print under terms & conditions on the invite .

It says complimentary cruise accommodation -- and they are giving us that.

There is a line that says "Guest is responsible for the NCF and taxes" ....

That's taxes and port fees in our speak - NCF = Non Commissionable fare = Port Charges..... This amount will vary based on the ports of call visited. ...

We still have to pay that for each person. In my case ( Jewel in July) NCL quoted 299.15 pp... and , I have to pay $200 to enter the tournament.

I wouldn't be surprised if by the time we sail that we're not paying the fuel fee they mention in T & C 's too !

Still a very sweet deal ...

Thank you Sjbdtz and Kitty! I didn't realize that the NCF was that high. I plan on calling 1st thing Monday and will be going Oct. 22 on the Sun. Right now I have 3 people that want to take this cruise with me and only will be taking one of them-- do I have to give them the name of the 2nd passenger when I book or if yes, can I change the name later?

Appreciate your help with this one, thanks again!

Yes, they'll need the name, but yes you can change it later (up to a couple of weeks before sailing, I believe).

Booked the October 22nd cruise about two hours ago. The CAS rep was absolutely fantastic! Now I have a great cruise to look forward to! :)

Tracy

Which rep did you speak with? It seems to be so hit or miss for me! =(

Her name was Jane and she was very helpful, especially regarding that all the information they had on me as a player was under my son's name (and he is only 19). So it was kind of confusing initially because the invitation had come to my son.

This was related to our cruise back in November when for some reason at check-in things got mixed up and my son was listed as the parent and I was marked as an underage child. Every time I went to the bar, I got asked for ID haha. Despite having it straightened out by mid-week of our cruise, all literature and CAS related things are still coming addressed to my son.

Jane helped me get it all straightened out and she even called me back after we had hung up because she had forgotten to tell me something.

I booked the same deal on the same sailing last week.. It's an amazing deal.. Especially when this summer sailing is far more expensive then the other 3 at normal cost..
