izmeeh Posted February 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 27, 2011 Hello all, I went on the Carnival Paradise and loved it. I'm looking for roundtrip cruises from California that are around or below $50/night. Is Carnival the only cruise line that offer cruises at this rate? Thank you. Cruisin' Chick Posted February 27, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 27, 2011 What time of year are you talking about? If you avoid when kids are out of school (such as holidays, school breaks), there's less demand and that keeps the price down. Another thing to consider is that longer cruises will tend to have a lower cost/day. So, all else being equal, a 7-day cruise will cost less per day than a 4-day cruise (such as the ones the Paradise does). A 14-day cruise will generally have a lower cost per day than a 7-day. One thing not in your favor is that there are less cruises available on the west coast, now that some of the cruiselines have pulled out of the west coast:(. Blame the drug/violence problem in Mexico. I'm not really sure if you'll be able to find cruises at that rate. Best thing to do is to talk to a cruise specialist (a TA who specializes in cruises). If the possibility exists that such a cruise exists, they can look out for it for you. Maybe if your schedule is flexible (can get days off at a minute's notice), your TA could keep an eye out when there's a flash sale. I'm guessing you're talking about Carnival's early booking program, but the TA could help you with that.
CruiserBruce Posted February 27, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 27, 2011 Don't see fares staying low when oil is near $100/barrel, and a ship goes thru $700K worth per 10 days when on a less than full speed cruise and oil is under $80.
Dayenu Posted February 28, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 28, 2011 Just checked Carnival, all cruises, they start with $159. To my surprise (or is it shock?) Holland america starts with $39. They also have $49 and $79, who knew :D Now, this is shocking too: Princess starts with $69!! This is how I did my search: Expedia, cruises, choose cruise line, after that sort by price. How many days? I just got an email from Princess with the subject title: Where can you go for $85 per day? The email was referring to segments of the world cruise (25 and 30 days).
