emelvee - I feel the same way! We like to listen to the live music onboard as well!! Last year on the Pride we found not much to doo at night besides the Piano Bar and Casino without a band to go listen to. So as long as there is a band onboard I'm happy - good or not !!! I'll take it!

Fingers crossed we get to book the Dream for November! This thread is fantastic!

Wife will certainly be trying the martinis on Dream in July. Don't know which bar they hold this in, but here is zydecocruiser's page about it.

We've done the martini tasting on the Fascination and Fantasy. So much fun! I was wondering where it's held on the Dream. I'm looking forward to doing it again! Thanks for the info though!

In response to the earlier question, I love Blackjack Band. They are very friendly, and they play good music. Their style may not please everyone's tastes. Their style isn't one that I normally listen to, but I do thoroughly enjoy them every time I've cruised with them. I've been with them 5 times on 3 different ships over the last 10 years. They have gotten used to seeing me & my folks. One of the members, Jimmy, plays the fiddle on the big stage in the country production show, and does an amazing job. I echo what others have said about enjoying having a live band to listen to on the ships. It really does add a lot. Dream is one of the ships that's hanging onto that for now. The last time I was on the Dream, Jimmy told me that they were signed into either 2015 or 2016.

I would suspect that the ship still has the laser show, but I haven't sailed her in over a year.

lyndamr-not quite sure why you dislike Blackjack Band so strongly? I have sailed with on the Dream 5 times and found Blackjack very entertaining-appeal to all age groups! Not unusual to see an 80 year old dancing nor a 3 or 4 year old dancing to their music! Sailing on the Dream for the 6th time in 5 weeks and can't wait to hear them again! And yes, I have listened and seen many live bands over the years and they are definitely worth your time if you are sailing on the Dream! Don't forget, Ocean Plaza (Deck 5)!

I just upgraded from an OV to Balcony on deck 9-Vista for $140!! Buyer's remorse is setting in as now I am worried about the ship rocking so high up!?!

Anyone sail on deck 9? It appears we are midway between the aft and middle elevators.

Actually, lyndamr said they were "good," just that they were "nothing more" than good. They claimed the band played and sang a lot of "wrong notes." I'll take a "good" live band over a dj just about any day.

Based on what the majority of people have said, I'm looking forward to seeing the band in July.

When we sailed on the Dream in October, my dd & dgs had an aft balcony cabin on the Vista deck. They did not have any issues with the ship rocking during normal sailing conditions. The first night we had rough seas but it did not rock any more than other ships we have sailed on. You will have a wonderful cruise. We will again be on Dream March 23 and absolutely love the ship. ;)

My first cruise was a deck 9 balcony and it was WONDERFUL!! As a matter of fact, for my November cruise on the Dream I booked the exact same room!!!

  • 2 weeks later...
We recently are back from cruise on Dream - 17 of us went - most had Cove Balconies -- all on the port side were able to use and loved -- the CB on the starboard side were UNUSABLE the entire cruise due to sewage smell -- this is not the first we knew about it because we had read about it on this site - thought it would be fixed by now. Carnival indicated that there was nothing they could do about it. Oh! yes they did offer 15% back but that is not the difference between an inside cabin (which is basically what we got) and the coves. I know 17 cruisers who will never use Carnival or any affiliates again. Thought you should know -- if you can, change to the port side.

We are considering booking the Dream. Has the sewage smell problem been resolved? Was it the entire ship or just the Deck 2 cove balconies? Thanks.

Very long ago was resolved. That was only an issue on very early sailings. Some people want to perpetuate this, because they like to pick on the Dream, like the kid in class that everyone picked on for no reason. The smell, which isn't exactly a sewage smell, can still happen (and absolutely does happen) on any and every ship out there. It's a part of sea life. It's no worse on Dream than any other ship. The bad reports are no more common on this ship than others. Most reports are that they only catch an occasional whiff every now and then, and in very random spots. Deck 2 seemed to come up a little more often. We stayed on deck 2 in a porthole room on Dream, and never smelled anything bad anywhere the whole week. I caught more of the smell on the Miracle & other ships I've been on.

One piece of advice: stay forward of the midship elevators for the cove balcony. Otherwise, you're under the galley. Just in case you didn't know that already.

The post that I was responding to was from November 2012, so it was not long ago from a very early sailing. And, it said that the balconies on half the ship were shut off, and that everyone with those rooms was given a credit, so it wasn't just a short-term, fleeting problem. Was that a one-time issue on that one sailing only that has been resolved? Or a new issue that has not yet been resolved? Thanks.

I'm surprised that I didn't hear about that one. Maybe the fix that they did after the first few sailings were not forever permanent. Hopefully, they were able to re-fix it quickly. These boards would probably be totally flooded with this issue if it wasn't, but maybe a recent cruiser on Dream can tell us for sure.

We sailed on Dream in November as well as in January and in a balcony on Verandah deck. We did not smell the smell at all anywhere on the ship.

We have, at times, smelled it on almost every ship we have been on, so it's not just a Dream problem. I don't know what causes it, but it happens here and there. I'm also surprised that I didn't hear about half the balconies being given a credit.

Okay wow finally read the whole thread. I think there was one for Destiny at the time like this thread. We finally book Dream for Sept 14th. We have a ext. Balcony in the back of the ship. We have room 7467, which was recommend by our PVP. Hopefully this is a good room.

We are doing the Western Caribbean route. I'm thinking of staying on the ship in Cozumel as we have done that port "many" times. I take it that the pool stuff like slides are open on port days? I think it would be a good day to take pictures of the ship then. How many people really get off the ship versus those that stay on?

We will be getting off in Belize, Costa Maya and maybe even Roatan: but only for a short time in Roatan as we have done a great tour there lasted time and not sure there's anything I want to see, other then the "new" port area Carnival built.

Will be watching this thread until we sail.....

Yes, pools & slides are open while in port, weather permitting. On the Magic, we stayed on the ship for Jamaica, our first port on Day 4. We could have almost any deck chair we wanted, the pool was almost empty, and I could ride the waterslides as many times as my legs could handle the climbing. I started getting dizzy from the frequent riding, as there was no wait. There was one kid also going on the slides, and we were about it. It was crazy to see 4700 people (Spring Break capacity) dwindle down to what seemed to be under 100. With Cozumel being a popular port and your first port, there is a good chance that a monstrous portion will be off the ship, just like with my experience. The earlybirds will be coming back on the ship about 4 hours after docking, and it will build from there.

Thanks for the information. We are in port from 10am to 6pm.

Hi all. I really enjoy reading all the posts here. Great information as always. I was curious if anyone has (or knows where I can find) the current funtimes for the Eastern side of Dream. I've checked John Heald's blog as well as searching here and haven't had great results. Those on JH's site are quite old.

We've sailed on Dream before in 2011 but it was before the 2.0 upgrades. We wanted to see what the funtimes look like after the upgrades.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help. :)
