master7030 Posted February 28, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2011 My husband and I are taking our first Oceania cruise. We have gone on many cruises, but we want to know about formal nights aboard this ship. If anyone can give us information, please write to us. Thanks,
hondorner Posted February 28, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2011 There are never any formal nights. The dress code is "country club casual", sometimes described as "smart casual" or "elegant casual". The basic requirements for men at evening dinner are long trousers and a collared shirt, no sandals. Jackets are never required and many men never bring one. Some men like to wear jackets. On our recent Marina transAtlantic, more men wore jackets than did not. On the Panama Canal crossing, which was more tropical, jackets were in the minority. Ties were only seen rarely. Frank Del Rio, founder of Oceania, has been heard to say that anyone wearing a tux will be mistaken for a waiter. Tie racks were deliberately omitted from the closets on Marina. However, this works very well, as everyone on board makes an effort to look nice. I have never seen jeans or a tee shirt in the dining rooms in the evening, although others have very occasionally reported such. The dress code is more relaxed in the Terrace cafe, but most people follow it there, as well. Normal resort and touring wear is perfectly acceptable during the day. Some of the ladies will no doubt comment more about their choices.
Mura Posted March 1, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 1, 2011 Don is absolutely right, but you should also go beyond the first page here ... there are several threads on the "dress code" which will help answer your question. But the bottom line is that there isn't one! That is, you can leave your formal gowns and tuxes at home. Mura
