Just back from 10-days on Equinox

Just back from a fantastic 10-day cruise on Equinox! I'll post a complete review soon, but just wanted to say that after 10 years of cruising with Celebrity, I've never been so impressed. The decor, service, and food were just out of this world. It was my first cruise on a Solstice-class ship, and Celebrity has really raised the bar!

As you would expect, I also have some complaints, but nothing that would keep me from taking this cruise again tomorrow!:D

Looking forward to your review. We are on the March 11 sailing. What were the times and location of the afternoon Elite Lounge.

Thank you!

We are also sailing this day. Come join the roll call. And if you haven't already sign up for the cruise connections party. We have a few activities planned. :o

We are Elites, but didn't go to the lounge on this cruise. I think it was from 4-6 PM, which is too early for us to start seriously drinking!

We did get 5 (FIVE!) pages of Elite coupons, so we did lots of laundry for free and took advantage of the free wireless internet (5 times 90 minutes free) and casino match.

My in laws just got back from this cruise as well. This was their first time on Celebrity. They loved it. They now understand why we like Celebrity so much. They too had a few minor complaints, but nothing that would stop them from sailing again. We sail on her in less than three weeks and can't wait.

The only complaints they had was they felt the early seating was packed in very tightly. Like they tried to squeeze alot of tables in. They had a table for 4 as they were traveling with my MILs sister and husband and were seated next to another table of 4 by very little space. They didn't like it as they felt awkward being so close to the next table and they way they were seated with 2 across from 2. They described it as feeling like being at a long banquet table.

My Mother in law was disappointed with the desserts in the main dining room and she IS a dessert person. Absolutely loves sweets. She said they were nice in presentation, but didn't live up to it in taste. She said the cakes were kind of dry. Sort of what another poster had recently posted. Being I am a dessert person, this sort of disappoints me, although my waistline will thank me for sure! She loved the homemade ice cream though.

Did you find this to be the case with the desserts too?

The only other complaint my father-in-law had was he felt there were alot of "older" people. (We politely informed him that he is also "old" too.!:D) He laughed. He says he wants to still feel young!

We are glad they loved the cruise and they are now looking forward to their Alaskan cruise with their friends on Infinity this summer.

Funny, we were on the same 2/18 Equinox cruise, and I think this was one of the youngest crowds we've ever seen on X.

We are on the April 11th sailing out of Ft. Lauderdale, so we can't wait. In the years I've been on this forum, we've taken three cruises, so this will be our fourth. I should always remember to step away from the Forum just before the trip begins because I keep having all these complaints ringing in my ears about food and chairs and shows and activities, but we have yet to experience any of the complaints we've read about on any of our cruises. You should just go and not expect too much to happen and just experience the day. After all, we are cruising with 4000 people. I'm sure our first-time experience on Celebrity will be a great one!

I completely agree! While it is true there were a lot of "older" people on board, there were also a lot of "middle-aged" and "younger" people. It was a great mix of passengers, and I must say they were by and large very classy and well-dressed, too.

Hi

We did a 10 day cruise on Equinox last year and whilst on board we we booked to do the same cruise again this year. We have cruised several times a year for the past 11 years and due to there being so many places in the world to see, this is the first time we have ever repeated the same cruise so that shows how good it was!

I'm on the March 11th sailing and am very psyched. I can't wait to read your review. I've discovered that part of the cruising pleasure for me is the anticipation---reading this board, reading the reviews, thinking about what to pack---daily life becomes more than just a little bit better when I have a cruise booked (hence I already booked for next January!).

And I'm in the Captain's Club! I'm thrilled and will NOT quote Groucho Marx on this membership.

You know, it's funny because when my father in law stopped by last night to pick up their dog, he brought their pictures from the cruise. I looked at the pictures and the people in his pics on the cruise and didn't see any "older" people in their pictures (except them with their grandkid photo t-shirts! LOL! We love teasing them!). The people I saw in the photos looked to be the same age group I've seen on all my past Celebrity cruises. We kept pointing it out as we flipped through their pics.

We can't wait for our cruise in less than 3 weeks on Equinox and we are 37 and 38 and never felt too young! We just prefer the more relaxed Celebrity experience over some of the other cruiselines as we are not into the party boat atmosphere.

I was on the same cruise, and my first reaction was wow, young crowd.

Then at the shows in the Equinox Theatre, it seemed a bit older (I brought the average age down, in there -- I'm 64).

I do agree that the later dinner seating, when less crowded, is a true pleasure.

There were quite a few families with multiple (well-behaved) children. It was fun to see them all.

Thanks for starting this thread, Ed! Hope the weather wasn't too chilly when you got home.

dont buy a beverage package...the bartenders are rude and they dont like it when you have them. they are very stingy with their drinks

Hi Menna,

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the beverage package and bar staff.

My wife and I were on the Equinox on the 7 February 2011 sailing, and both had the premium beverages packages - and made the most of it! The bar staff at the Martini Bar and the Molecular Bar were always more than happy to see us, and never seemed to have a problem with us being on a package.

Unfortunately, I guess all service staff can have bad days!

We will be on the April 11 sailing.I will be the white haired lady with a walker, surely I will not be one of a kind.:D We haven't been on the Connie since the re-furb and are very glad to read all of the praises. I agree with either skipping comments or not concerning uourself with them. Good times coming soon.;)

I have been wondering about the free bag of laundry you get as an Elite member. Who big is the bag? How much stuff could you get in it?
