sludger Posted March 2, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2011 Just read in the West Australian that our great Pilgrim Father run West Australian state has finally allowed the casinos to be open whilst the ships are in WA waters. Previously the casinos had to close when they crossed the border. Hallelujah! All this is fantastic news for us over here. Cruising is the best way to see the main coastal towns of this state and I can envisage cruises now that incorporate Albany, Bunbury, Bussleton, Fremantle, Geraldton, Kalbarri, Coral bay&Exmouth, Broome and on to Darwin. This is VERY VERY good news for our travel industry. All we need now is for the Pilgrim Fathers to allow us Poker machines in the clubs and we will be on our way to being civilized. LOL No, they just act like it, the government both state and local over the years have banned late night shopping ( which we have just got) and still there is very little Sunday trading. They have resisted (with Packer's insistence) the placing of pokies anywhere other than the one casino in the state. We still do not promote the state as a tourist destination really when there are miles and miles of untouched coastline and scenery to die for and no major tourist development apart from a couple like Broome which is marketed to the Japanese primarily. Kiwi Kruzer Posted March 2, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 2, 2011 Yes I know what you mean. We have been to WA twice on a cruise, and could not believe the secret hideaway you have there. Its a fabulous destination. Heres a funny story for you. On our cruise call at Bunbury , we approached a taxi driver, and asked to be shown the highlights. "There aren't any"...she replied.. So we then rattled off some of the sights we had seen on the net ... and she said "Oh Yeah... Well when you think about it they are quite neat" So off we went to see them , and she left saying that next time a cruise ship came in she would know where to go:)

Spike Milligan once described Bunbury as 'the world's largest above ground cemetary'. he obviously didnt see it by taxi ! :) but seriously, my hubby and i went down south recently and decided to call into Bunbury on the way home -it was a Sunday - nothing was open !! and as the things that WA doesnt have - add no daylight saving, no foreshore development and are only just getting some 'small bar licences for wine bars ... but hey secret hideaway is right - please dont tell anyway that we have the most beautiful beaches and sunsets in the world ! :) Kind regards Jane
