srohl Posted March 3, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2011 Has anyone been on both of these ships? I was wondering how they compare. Thank you!!
SCUBA Mark Posted March 3, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2011 Both are nice but the Legend is a larger ship. The Waterworks on the Fantasy is nice. The layout of the Legend is better.
marym933 Posted March 3, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2011 Welcome to CruiseCritic. The Fantasy was my first cruise in 1998. We liked it so much, we sailed the same itinerary again in 1999. I have been on the Legend twice, the most recent time was January 9, 2011. The Fantasy is an older, smaller ship with no balcony cabins. She was built in 1990, but has been refurbished several times. The last dry dock added the Evolution of Fun. The Legend was built in 2002. She underwent a dry dock just last month. She got an adult Serenity area. The cabin size on every Carnival ship is pretty much the same. The Legend has a larger casino and nicer, larger shops. I really liked the Fantasy, but enjoy the newer ships. Our Fantasy cabins were oceanviews. We moved up to a balcony cabin when we went on the Disney Wonder. I would not book another cabin without a balcony. Rare mizLORInj Posted March 3, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 3, 2011 I like all size Carnival ships, but I like variety. Legend is larger than Fantasy. Fantasy has balcony cabins (suites) on the Verandah deck and balconies on the suites on the Upper deck. The larger Carnival ships have lots and lots of balcony cabins. I'd go on either. Oh, I don't care for the waterslides on the Legend or Miracle. The other ships have better ones!
kjunea Posted March 3, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 3, 2011 We did the Legend last fall and are doing the Fantasy (for my 3rd time, DH's second) in July. Both have pluses and minuses. Legend is bigger, newer, has balconies, and you can walk through each floor. Fantasy is older, a little more "over the top' with the decor, but has the new waterworks, which my son (8) will love. For me, it was about the itinerary. For my DH, it was itinerary and price (he's an accountant). Fantasy does a great 7 day cruise with 3 sea days, and ports of Nassau (ok), Grand Turk (great) and Half Moon Cay (awesome!!). Legend does the western, which we've done quite a lot, and if it did Costa Maya instead of Belize, we might have booked it again. We have to book 2 cabins this cruise, since the "big kids" (21 and 18) will be going with us this cruise, so price difference was pretty substantial. Take into consideration that Charleston is an easy days drive (8.5 hours) from us, and to my husband it was a no brainer! He loved, loved, loved HMC and since this is a celebration cruise for one of the big kids graduating high school and my husband surviving Chemo, he won! DarthGrady Posted March 3, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2011 I have been on five of the eight Fantasy Class ships, although not on the actual Fantasy. I have also been on the Spirit, and toured the Legend (her sister). Although I really like the Fantasy Class ships, the Spirit Class are the nicest that Carnival has to offer. The Fantasy is now the oldest and one of the smallest ships in the fleet. While she does have the Waterworks and Serenity are, she only has one pool. There is no supper club, and she only does 5/6 day runs back and forth to the Bahamas. Legend is still a relatively new ship, with more amenities like a Supper Club, three pools (one of which is covered), and numerous balcony rooms. She also has much better itineraries IMO. GuitarPlayer Posted March 5, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2011 Has anyone been on both of these ships? I was wondering how they compare. Thank you!! Is there anything specifically you are trying to compare between the two? GP
Cruise, J.D. Posted March 5, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 5, 2011 she only does 5/6 day runs back and forth to the Bahamas. That is interesting because I am booked on a 7-day cruise on the Fantasy in July that goes to Nassau, HMC, and Grand Turk. Like the Elation in Mobile, the Fantasy offers some 7-day cruises. Very excited to go to HMC and Grand Turk.

Panelope Barnabus Posted March 6, 2011 #11 Share Posted March 6, 2011 We were on the Legend in June and the Fantasy in August. Like others have said, the Legend is much larger. Personally, I find the Fantasy to have a much easier layout to follow. But I LOVE both of the ships. They were so much fun :)
