Round the world solo

Hello, I am planning to celebrate my 50th birthday (early 2013) with a solo cruise around the world. I am starting to look around because it seems these cruises get sold out quite soon. I live in Italy, but it does not have to be Costa, other lines departing from Southampton will be convenient too. I am not looking for great fun or many activities, rather tranquility, enrichment classes, relax. Still I would not mind if the average age is not too high and some other solos there. What about Cunard and P&O? Would they be good for solos?

Your choices for ships would be much higher if you would depart from a US port. Most well known lines start their world cruises out of NY, Florida or Los Angeles. For instance, Queen Elisabeth's world cruise starts in NY and Queen Victoria's starts in Florida. If you're willing to forgo some ports, you can join the would cruise in other ports rather than the original port of embarkation. If you do that, your cruise would be shortened from 104 days to 87 days.

But, you do have a lot of time to make your decision. The itineraries won't be out until late this year or early next.

I've done partial world cruises on Crystal four different years, as a solo. Being in my late 40's and early 50's, I was by far the youngest passenger. Average age on Crystal's world cruises was above 70. But that didn't matter because the itineraries were wonderful and exciting.
