Shuttle Bus from P Roma to Venice Cruise Terminal

CHS

Recommended Posts

We will be staying in a Hotel in P.Roma in Venice and will be sailing out on May13th/2011. We were just wondering if RCCL/Splendour of The Seas offers any shuttle buses to take you to the cruise terminal.

Thanks for any info regarding this matter.

Piazzale Roma is essentially a large carpark/coach park. It it not very scenic but it is at the top of the Grand Canal.

The easiest way to get to the port is the People Mover.

1 stop for €1pp

The city (not the cruise line) is meant to operate complimentary cruise shuttles but I never saw them. They are meant to go from D1 stop.

When you get in the square on the left side is a luguage depot you can leave your luguage overnight.

A couple yards from there is a small park and an bank.

There is where the free bus stop is. The bus is orange color.

Make sure if yoiu have the right bus when more ships in port the busses go to different ships.

People mover or walking if you only have small luguage is also easy.

We cruised RCCL Spendour last May and used the shuttle from P. Roma, it runs from the D2 area (Look for the RCCL sign in front window).

Last years blog about the shuttle.

Thanks everyone for your replies. We will look for the D2 shuttle bus with RCCL banner in window. If we don't see it will just use the people mover.

Thanks again and have a wonderful day.

There will likely be a lot of people waiting for the bus, so if possible split up and have one of you loading your luggage and another boarding to get seats. I saw people that managed to get their luggage on but then didn't have a seat on the bus. They had to trust that it got properly unloaded at the terminal. :(

We took the shuttle last spring (before the People Mover opened). It was very easy to find in P. Roma (in the corner away from the busier regular bus stops, close to the airport bus stop). Quick trip right to the luggage drop off at the ship (unlike the People Mover which requires a walk).

In this picture of P Roma, where is the D2 area? (Upper left, lower right, etc.). It sort of looks like orange buses in the upper area. But it all looks busy to me. :D

We'll need the shuttle as we will have way too much luggage to go with the people mover (we'll be on a b1b cruise). Thanks in advance.

Bottom right, by the crosswalk. The bus will back up and park behind the crosswalk.

Note: There will be several cruise ship shuttles (NCL, Costa, RCCL, etc.) depending on what ships are in port that day.

Agreed - bottom right by the crossing. There is a row of food/souvenir stalls under the trees to the right. Grand Canal water buses top and centre. Orange buses are local buses to the mainland. People mover is just off to the bottom left of the square. Airport buses arrive where the two blue buses are lined up horizontally.

Thanks for the confirmation. I frequently say it's better to be lucky than good.

Our hotel for our Voyager cruise this October is across the small canal at the bottom of the picture in the brown building. Even if we can't get all our luggage over the one bridge, it isn't so far that I can't leave my wife with a couple while I take some to the hotel and return for the rest of it and her. Same thing going to the ship. Too much for the people mover, but knowing where to wait (and to have my wife board immediately) is very helpful.

Cruise Critic posters rock!

RSWBADGER: thanks again for pointing out the exact location for shuttle bus. And to everyone else that replied.

2 months from tomorrow we will be on our way to Venice. :D

That is a good photo of the bus area. Our experience was the bus will be there, but you will have a difficult time finding it as the signs will be tiny if they exist at all. You will find the driver to be of little help and you will be required to stuff your bags in the belly of the bus yourself and then extract them at the ship. We found the drivers to be of no help and not friendly (unlike what we typically find in Italy where we travel often). The walk to the ship is not far but also not real short either - with just a little luggage might be possible to do.

You should avoid the taxis at P. Roma at all costs as they are all rip off artists and charge an outrageous amount to take folks to the ship. I have often wondered if the bus drivers with their poor signs and attitudes are not in cahoots with the cab drivers. We heard cabbies quoting people rates of 80 Euros to go to the ship (and shockingly saw some people accept the offer and take the cab) which is oh maybe a 3-4 minute cab ride.

Whatever you do, do not let the debacle at P. Roma spoil your time in the wonderful and magical city of Venice or cast a shadow on what will be a wonderful cruise.

We were in the Arlecchino just off the bottom right of the picture. A great spot even if you do have to take it in turns to get your bags over the two bridges - but don't worry, you will see lots of other tourists doing the same thing!

Luckily, we didn't have the same experience as WillieC. Found the bus easily. No help loading (but not rude either), but bas removed at the other end by the porters.

Enjoy

Bob - thanks for the picture. Hopefully we'll be able to use the shuttle. I can just see it now......should make for some great conversation if nothing else. ;)

We're staying at the for 2 nights Arlecchino in October. When were you there? Any suggestions for reasonable restaurants close by?

We were there during the volcano ash cloud event last year. There is a nice restaurant immediately below the hotel - eat outside alongside the canal. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from if you take a few minutes walk over P Roma, cross the bridge and go past the station. It's not cheap to eat out. You get much better value at lunchtimes - look for the set menus. There is a convenient co-op off P Roma (walk along past the water bus terminal)
