unatheo Posted March 11, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2011 Hi, My wife and I love our morning coffee and purchased a bunch (13#) while in Jamacia. What are some comparable brands in Honduras to Blue Mt. Coffee? And how much per pound - we prefer the whole bean variety. Thanks in advance. Hi unatheo...looks like your from the stomping grounds of my long ago youth:). You can buy whole bean coffee in either port area (Coxen Hole or Mahogany Bay) that is grown on the mainland but roasted on the island. I believe there is only one type of Honduran bean sold. The kiosks have a couple of varieties of roasts. As I recall whole beans ran about $13 a pound. They're in a sealed bag so no worries of getting it through customs. But in the local groceries in either Coxen Hole or French Harbor, you can buy it cheaper. The one in French Harbor (Eldon's or Sun Grocery now) is probably the best bet as it has a larger variety of goods. There is a mercado in Coxen hole that may have coffee too. Meant to say, it's not Blue Mountain, but I think it's "high grown", medium body and not too bad either, a bit closer to Guatemalan Antigua, IMO. Enjoy your cruise. blythe Posted March 11, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 11, 2011 I'm also interested in purchasing coffee while we are in Roatan so appreciate the information. Are there any other food items unique to Roatan that might be good to bring home to family/friends?
