Aplmac or anyone that know the beaches

Aplmac, I have been reading all the beach threads for months now and still don't know where to go. I absolutely love all the pictures you have posted on all the ports of call forums. Please tell me where to spend a beach day in Barbados, is the Hilton day pass a good idea, or is there another place you love? I have gone back and forth between the Hilton, Rockley, and the beach in front of Lobster Alive. I am traveling with my husband who has recently had some health problems, my daughter, son in law and my 4 yr. old grandson. We would like a clean beach, nice sand and water, not too rough, restrooms, and a place to order good food. We want to be able to rent chairs and umbrellas, relax and let the 4 yr old play in the sand and water. Thank you in advance to any and all that have good advice. I don't mind paying to use a facility, just want to make the most of a beautiful day in Barbados.

my son in law and my 4 yr. old grandson.

Hilton is a good bet, if you want to spend the money

(a simple lunch for me and the wife, at their beach bar last week, cost me US$45!)

-and that has nothing to do with day-rate, or alcohol...

we just walked in off the beach and ordered..

But..Accra/Rockley is also very nice, not as 'manicured' as Hilton might be,

but still very nice -and your day there won't total up to maybe US$70-100.

I don't know how rich you are.. :D

Lobster Alive/Carlisle Bay beach is wide and expansive, biggest..longest..beach of the three,

but amenities are not what you'd find at Accra or at Hilton!

Carlisle is comparatively undeveloped.

More suitable for a younger crowd who will put up with less creature-comforts overall?

I'm probably not being very helpful here, am I... :)

I'd say go for Hilton day pass(if they can accommodate you)

- if you have the money and don't need the boardwalk

but on the other hand you could do Accra/Rockley, have a great time, do the boardwalk,

eat lunch at one of the snack-shacks nearby, use basic amenities nr. said shacks

and have a good time.

"Not too rough" surf very much depends on the day

and on prevailing wind conditions two days prior to Your Day.

Wind generates wave action, over 48 hrs. so ........

Accra has a sheltered spot up at its Eastern end, where you can get a dip in the ocean

if the rest of the bay is too rough for you to get out past the surf, into the smoother stuff..

but then Hilton has several pools! and a choice of sea-bathing spots

if you want to do salt-water

that includes a small calm beach area down to the Western end of Hilton's broad beach

near where the cannons point out to sea from the old fort ruins.

This is where wife and I took a dip after that lunch mentioned above.

Other factor: Hilton is nearby(relative to the Port):

whereas Accra/Rockley is a bit further out, but not by much.

You can even walk from one to the other(thanks to the boardwalk)

but that might be a pleasant picture-taking 45mins. to one hour.

In a nutshell..

you will be very-likely be pleased with Hilton

you should be pleased with Accra/Rockley

and you might be pleased with Carlisle Bay/Lobster Alive.

Pay attention to the italics ;)
