Medical evacuation on Jewel

Just off the Navigator of the Seas yesterday, and wondered if anyone knows anything about a medical emergency this past week on Jewel of the Seas. We pulled into Labadee on Wednesday and were surprised to see Jewel pull in right next to us. Turns out they came in just long enough to off load a passenger to put them on a waiting medvac helicopter that had landed on the pier. We were just curious as to what the emergency was, and hopefully everything ended up alright for the passenger.

In the interest of personal privacy, information like this is never released publicly.

Mmmmm, if you are on a sailing that has a medical evac then usually its fairly easy to find out what the reasoning was for the evac. Sometimes the captain announces what the problem is.

Are you sure it was a medical emergency? Where would the helicopter take someone for a medical emergency?

Sometimes EVACs from Labadee are taken to the Dominican Republic via helicopter, then to Miami via medivac jet.

They land on the pier because it is safer than landing on the ship.

Explorer had a medical evacuation on Thursday 3/10. Original plan was to make it to Port Liberty late Thursday PM but when we reached Norfolk area the plan changed to a coast guard helicopter evacuation from the ship which went smoothly. All the captain told us was that someone needed emergency care and that consultation with the doctor and medical staff in Miami headquarters determined the actions taken. No details about the person were given, appropriately so. The captain did announce at the farewell show Thursday evening that the person was in the hospital and holding her own. We no nothing more as to the condition, although we heard that the passenger had received transfusions while on board from crew blood donations. Don't recall that coming thru official channels however.
