You will have to contact the airline/airlines she will be flying with to get assistance at the airports, Princess does not do this for you even if you booked the flights through them.

As far as walking on the ship though, you need to realize, that she will have to walk a lot onboard. Just for dining if nothing else. Princes no longer loans out wheelchairs if she decides she needs one onboard. You might want to rethink not having some sort of wheelchair for her onboard the ship, as there is a lot more walking then I think you realize.

Once you have your Airline arrangements, contact Customer Service at the Airline and request Passenger assistance also check to make sure she has an aisle seat. They will see Mom is escorted from the baggage check-in area (just tell the porter at curb side baggage check-in that you requested Service. It should show up on her booking. Same thing when she gets to her destination, remind the stewardess that Assistance was reserved and they will call the Porter.

I agree that you may think about renting a Transfer Chair. These are light weight wheelchairs that need to be pushed by someone, they cannot be self propelled. They fit easily through doors and fold up for portablity in vehicles when on tours. Most medical supplie stores will rent them.

You can either pre-arrange assistance with the airport or request assistance at the airport. Allow extra time as the check-in counter will need to summon assistance and that can take a while, as well as extra security screening. Please be sure to tip the wheelchair attendant (at least in the US they do not get paid well for a crappy job).

As far as on ship, a wheelchair or other stabilizer is a MUST for anyone with limited mobility, a walker at a minimum. Remember that the deck may be moving at time. At the very least, a walker should be available depending on your mum's particular issues.

Also remember that some ships are close to a 1/4 mile stem to stern and you make that trip several times per day.

Depending on her issues, I would also suggest you look into booking and accessible cabin, if you have not already (not necessary if its a stamina issue)

From experience of travelling with someone with limited mobility who normally does not require assistance to walk but can't walk great distances you will find that having some sort of walker or wheel chair a god send.

Pre- book a wheelchair for use at the airport through your airline customer services, they are normally collected in the check-in areas. I have found that if they are pre-booked you can collect them straight away from the collection point before you check-in. This helps with all the waiting in line! And as others have said remind the flight asttendants their help is invaluable.

On board remember that if your mum intends to partake of the entertainment on offer she may have to get from one end of the ship to the other for different shows.

After the problems we had last time getting from one end to the other this year we are taking a wheelchair along just in case!

Contact the airline customer service and they will put it in the record. You may have to remind them at check-in since they don't always seem to notice it in the record. They will call someone or a cart to get your party. Also make sure she wears shows she can easily get off since she will have to still walk through or be checked at security. I agree about the ship...it can be a lot of walking.
