rugbypopsie Posted March 17, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2011 So whats your favourite or favourites in our region and why? Australia I like Port Douglas, so pretty, tropical, lush, laid back..easy to jump in a hire car for a nice ride down to Cairns along beautiful scenery..reef not too far away...NICE Sydney is fantastic too...so much to do in and around the city. NZ Just about all of the ports...feels like home but exotic too. Napier for its 1920's feel. Tauranga for its proximity to Rotarua..easy peasy..hire cars on wharf. Friendly locals. STH PACIFIC MMMM used to be Ouvea beautiful beach, laid back, lovely sand... I loved the Blue Lagoon cruising where you got to all the out of the way places in a small group..sailing past the scenery, cocktail in hand, warm breeze on face, islanders singing..YUM
Bella cruiser Posted March 17, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2011 Hi, My favorites are: Australia - Cairns - you can access so many beautiful diverse scenic locations from there, you could go there several times and see something different each time. NZ - Bay of Islands - for the beautiful scenery and Tauranga as Rugbypopsie mentioned for access to Rotarua and Lake Taupo. Pacific - Bora Bora for it's breathtaking beauty. Kiwi Kruzer Posted March 17, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 17, 2011 Every port has its own appeal.. I love them all, as each has someting unique. I think where folk go off the rails is that they do not realise that you only have one day in the port and they try to do too much. If you want to see all the attractions of where your cruise ship calls, fly over there and do a land tour, and see how much that costs you. rugbypopsie Posted March 17, 2011 Author #8 Share Posted March 17, 2011 You are so right...my one day in Benoa has now resulted in two weeks "land cruise" in Bali. Takes a lot for me to give up a cruise for a land anything but the little taste tester of Bali convinced me.
Hot Chilli Posted March 17, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 17, 2011 Australia - haven't done an Aussie cruise yet, but I really would like to visit Broome one day NZ - Napier is my favourite port. Love the little art deco town! South Pacific - Yasawa-I-Rara, Fiji. Just LOVE this stop. Don't understand why cruises very rarely go there anymore cause its beautiful. Kiwi Kruzer Posted March 17, 2011 #10 Share Posted March 17, 2011 South Pacific - Yasawa-I-Rara, Fiji. Just LOVE this stop. Don't understand why cruises very rarely go there anymore cause its beautiful. I think its something to do with the landing pontoon for the tenders. Its very rickety, and quite often gets destroyed in the cyclone season. However , I don't why P&O don't come to the party and built a permanent pontoon there, where two tenders at a time can operate. I agree its a beautiful spot. One of the best beaches anywhere.:)
sharri34 Posted March 18, 2011 #11 Share Posted March 18, 2011 My Favourite Port is either Isle of Pines, just coz of how beautiful it is or wait for it....Noumea!!! But ONLY for Amedee Island, Amedee was beautiful, and it was the first time I got to swim next to a Sea Turtle :D
