[Carnival Platinum Cruiser]

31st cruise with CCL and here are a few observations from our cruise.

 

1) Port of Charleston is unlike any other. It is somewhat hard to find the entrance as it is on sort of a back road just over a railroad track where they have stations for everything. Long line to get to the parking lot pay station, then after paying go a bit further and drop off the lugggage, then go park the car, then go to the shuttle bus stop as no private cars are allowed anywhere near the terminal.

 

2) Embarkation was not bad at all as we were on the ship by 11:30

 

3) Ship is in good shape with all the usual activities.

 

4) Dining room was good as usual and other than the deli and mongolian grill the lido buffet selection was poor and quality of food was fair at best IMO.

 

5) Nightly entertainment was OK. The comedian was OK but the showtime shows are getting real old (taking too many cruises I guess) and was not well attended as the 2nd tier was 3/4 empty for both production shows.

 

6) Nice repeat cruiser party as we literally had our own bar server as again the 2nd tier was 3/4 empty. PLENTY of free drinks and took some to go as they kept giving us more.

 

7) No issues with the crew all seemed eager to please.

 

8) Platinum gifts were the CCL coolers. We were the only milestone cruisers aboard and not than many platinum either.

 

Overall a nice typical CCL cruise as few things seem to change over many years of sailing with them and for the price we paid we certainly got our $$s worth.

thanks! we are going out of Charleston for the first time this summer. I think we will use a park and cruise hotel the night before to eliminate some of the steps you mentioned with parking!
