Cruises to Northern Lights?

Wasn't sure where to post this so I apologise if in the wrong place.

 

Are there any cruises that would give good chance of seeing northern lights? i.e. best month would be November but lights can often be seen between September to March ideally cruise from UK to Iceland (Reykjavik) or as a second choice Tronso in Norway. Budget was £1,000pp but looking too low!

 

I'm really struggling to find anything. I've found two which are both on Boudicca - one in September which is earlier than we'd ideally like and is £1,304pp but goes to Iceland and Norway and the other in February to Norway but this looks like only single cabins are left!

Have you looked at Hurtigruten, the cruise/ferry line that does Norway? You might ask on the Other Cruise Lines board, I think there are some there who have sailed Hurtigruten. EM

Check for the Expedition cruises like on the Polar star

Hurtigruten would be our choice. We really enjoyed our time with them, even on the old Midnatsol (not the larger, nicer new one). It's not like any other "cruise" because Hurtigruten is also a way that Norwegians get from town to town. You'd stop in more small ports, cruise down more small fjords, and see more of the country. We've only taken it in the summer, but I'm sure winter cruising would be great. Of course there's no guarantee of northern lights regardless, but I'd say you'd have a pretty good shot at it if you do the roundtrip itinerary from Bergen.

thanks for the tips on hurtigruten - I had a quick look at them before but the ones I saw seemed expensive at £4k plus. Will also look into Polar Star

Now is great time to seek out the Aurora. The sun is very active and will produced fabulous light shows over the poles for next few years.

Have you asked a TA to find you a cheaper fare on Hurtigruten? My neighbour went in December, and was on of only 50 people on board, so she picked it up cheaply.

Also, keep trying with Fred Olsen, as someone may drop out of that cruise....if you're waiting in the wings, you might be lucky!
