tully07 Posted March 25, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2011 Looking at doing a British Isles cruise RT Southampton in 2012 [Caribbean Princess]. This is a silly question = but just wondering which side of the ship is better for viewing....seems to me that the starboard side might face the coastline for most of the voyage.....any thoughts? Shogun Posted March 25, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 25, 2011 Hi There Makes no real difference for sea days you are to far out to see anything, while for ports many are inland so you get great views from both sides. Then there is the docking have been to the likes of Greenock so many times and the ship has never docked facing the same way as it did on its last visit. Enjoy your cruise. yours Shogun

traveler525 Posted March 25, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2011 How about a cabin at the back of the ship? We love those aft-facing cabins (ok, only had one before But we Loved it):). View still good?
DrivesLikeMario Posted March 26, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 26, 2011 I'm curious too. This is my dream cruise! It's #1 on my "Cruises To Do List". You would think the logical answer would be starboard, but I think for the first part of the cruise, you'll have some scenery on both sides. I didn't think we'd be close enough when I was in the Channel last Nov. to see land, but we could see the Scilly Isles and many of the night lights in Portsmouth, Weymouth, Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight. 6MonthsHere6MonthsThere Posted March 26, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 26, 2011 We did the British Isles cruise on the Crown last June, if you want the balcony for the Sun, then either Port or starboard is OK as you are heading north for the first half of the cruise and south for the second half. If it is for the views then the Starboard side would be best, even on some of the sea days we sailed reasonably close to land. For what it is worth, one thing to bear in mind for anybody who likes the casino, it is closed for a considerable amount of the 12 days as much of the time the ship does not sail far enough out to sea to get into international waters. skyline Posted March 26, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 26, 2011 :)We did this cruise on the Crown in 2009 - FANTASTIC! We were in a port cabin (D-328) and most times when we were in port, we faced the action. If there were a band, dance troup, mascot, ceremony, we saw them and enjoyed not only their welcome but their sailaway performance too. I had checked with people who had taken the trip before, and most suggested port side. Having had a wonderful cruise, I have to agree. Enjoy your trip.
