karmavacations Posted March 25, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2011 Are OCEAN BEACH RESORT & OCEAN BAR at Grand Sur one in the same or two entirely different beach clubs? The pics online & price are very similar...any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated!
DebJ14 Posted March 26, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 26, 2011 Yes they are the same place- Ocean Resort is the newer name. The staff had on the Ocean Bar shirts when we were there in Jan.

DebJ14 Posted March 26, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 26, 2011 Thank you very much for clearing that up for me!Did you enjoy your beach day? Can you give me a little review of the property and/or services? Thanks:D At Ocean resort the loungers are nice, not so close to each other as other beach clubs. We had a lousy waiter, but others there the same day had a different experience and had great service. The buffet was closed due to lack of people so they served you off the menu. Then more people came and they opened the buffet. Drinks were not the best I've had on the island. I guess if you just drink beer you will be fine. Honestly, we prefer Nachi Cocom, Mr. Sanchos or Playa Palancar to Ocean Resort. There is alot of coral right in front so you have to move down the beach in front of Carlos N Charlies to swim and then you are in the crowds (Ocean Resort, Carlos and Charlies and Paradise are right next to each other) We have been to them all and find Paradise too crowded. Nachi requires reservations and they do sell out. Nachi had good food, but again we had the lousy waiter. Massage was good at Nachi. With Mr. Sanchos you have the choice of All inclusive or a la carte. You can make reservations at Mr. Sanchos through beachtours dot com or cozumel water sports or just show up. Playa Palancar is a la carte and is a more laid back place like Nachi. No reservations. Taxi fare is higher because it is further south. Great food and service though. We went to Playa Palancar probably 5 times in 3 years. We decided to mix it up and did Nachi in August 2010 and Ocean Resort in Jan 2011. We are booked for Mr. Sanchos for May 2011. We want to check it out to see how it would be for the whole family when we cruise in August. We haven't been to Mr. Sanchos in a long time and it sounds like there have been many changes. We are hoping it will be good for our 4 and 6 year old grandchildren. If not, we will go back to using Playa Palancar. Check to see how many ships will be in port. On our visit to Nachi in August the place was packed. Ocean Resort was empty in January. The day we are in port in May we are the only ship, so we expect an empty beach club at Mr. Sanchos. fewer111 Posted March 28, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 28, 2011 Beware of flies at Palancar Beach, we had TONS of them all over the food at all times and by 4pm the mosquitoes were all over us as well...
DebJ14 Posted March 28, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 28, 2011 If there were flies at Palancar there were probably flies all along the beach. It depends on which way the winds are blowing. At the beach clubs the area between the road and the club is required to be preserved in its natural state. There are lots of mangrove swamps where all the flies and mosquitos hang out. If the breeze is blowing from the west then usually no bugs. If it is a breeze coming from the East then you will find bugs. We had a big problem with yellowjackets at Nachi Cocum last time - kept landing in the drinks.
Puffinater Posted March 29, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 29, 2011 We went to the Beach Club in Oct and the day we were there it was just about empty. No buffet but the food was cooked when ordered and was good. Drinks were ok. Considering doing it again with their non alcohol drink option. Food, non alcohol drinks, chair and umbrella $25 per person.

I keep reading mixed reviews on both and wanted to know which you would choose if you were looking for quiet beach with nice chairs, great food, drink and service? DebJ14 Posted March 31, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 31, 2011 My preference for a la carte is Playa Palancar. For all inclusive laid back then Nachi Cocom. For AI with a bit more to do then Mr, Sanchos.
Vanilla Posted March 31, 2011 #10 Share Posted March 31, 2011 Do any of them offer parasailing or scuba diving for beginners?
DebJ14 Posted March 31, 2011 #11 Share Posted March 31, 2011 Mr Sanchos has Victors Water Sports on site. Parasailing, Banana Boats, kayaks, wave runners, snorkeling and diving. But, don't know if they offer diving for beginners. Best to get PADI certified before you get there.
Puffinater Posted March 31, 2011 #12 Share Posted March 31, 2011 Can anyone tell me the name of the beach/club/business that is next to the Beach Club? I have had a complete memory loss. Will be heading that way again and it might be less expensive to share a cab. Thanks.
DebJ14 Posted March 31, 2011 #13 Share Posted March 31, 2011 Ocean Resort is next to Carlos N Charlies which is next to Paradise. Google maps of Cozumel beach clubs and you can see where they all are in relation to one another.
