Upgrade call at 5am day of cruise

On our very first Carnival cruise we received a call from our travel agent to say that we were upgraded from an inside cabin to an outside cabin...at no additional cost. If I remember correctly, it happened about two weeks before we were to leave. Oh yes, I took it :)

I see that was in the good old days when Uncle Bob was still at the helm.

Since Mr Cahill has taken over upgrades now cost $$$.

a couple of years ago, I was cruising with my daughter on the Sensation. We had booked an inside cabin. About 4 days before we were to leave, I got a call from my PVP asking me if I would like an upgrade to a balcony suite. I asked how much?? She said complimentary because I am platinum and the cabin was available. Grabbed it! Very nice, paid about 250 or so per person for that cruise. To book the suite , it would have been over 600 per person. That is the only time we got a call from CCL to offer us a free upgrade.
