abbysmaid Posted April 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2011 We have a day in Florida before sailing on the Freedom of the Seas. Trying to decide if we should stay in Orlando or spend the day in Cocoa Beach. Is there enough to do in Cocoa Beach for a full day?
Orlando Vic Posted April 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 14, 2011 Sure, there is enough to do in Cocoa Beach http://www.visitcocoabeach.com for a day. If we knew when you were traveling, that would be helpful. Also, the ages of any children traveling with you. Of course, you could go to the beach. Lori Wilson Park is a good choice http://www.beachhunter.net/cocoa-beach/lori-wilson-park.htm You could visit Ron Jon's Surf Shop http://www.beachhunter.net/cocoa-beach/lori-wilson-park.htm You could also visit the Lone Cabbage Fish Camp and take an airboat ride http://twisterairboatrides.tripod.com/index.html
JohninDC Posted April 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2011 A day at the Kennedy Space Center near Port Canaveral is worth your time and is certainly more educaitonal than all of those roller coasters that I love to ride over and over. :o
tm5to1 Posted April 14, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 14, 2011 Cocoa has alot to offer. Have lunch or an early dinner at Fish Lips and wave to all the cruisers leaving port they day before you. It's as much a tradition there as watching a shuttle launch!
NJLVW Posted April 14, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 14, 2011 I am wondering the same thing. Option 1 is to stay in Disney the day before the cruise. I know what there is to do there.:D Option 2 stay near port at either Cape Canaveral or Cocoa Beach. Do not know the area or how to get around. All suggestions woud be great and appreciated. Eng23 Posted April 15, 2011 #7 Share Posted April 15, 2011 We have a day in Florida before sailing on the Freedom of the Seas. Trying to decide if we should stay in Orlando or spend the day in Cocoa Beach. Is there enough to do in Cocoa Beach for a full day? It depends on what you are wanting to do. If you are looking for a beach day by all means stay in Cocoa Beach or Cape Canaveral. There are many choices of lodging from on the beach or close to the cruise terminal. If you like bar hopping then stay in Cape Canaveral (closest to the cruise terminals) and do the inlet bar crawl, there are quite a few good restaurants/bars there. You can enjoy the scenery and watch the cruise ships that leave on Saturday head out. If you are into large crowds, lots of trafffic, screaming kids, and over priced lodging stay in the Disney area and go to a Disney park (you can only do one park the day before a cruise, since Disney World is sooo big) then leave for the cruise the following morning. Good luck in your decision! :D
