Gilpet Posted April 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2011 For all UK travellers - I only discovered today that the European Health Insurance Card (which we are advised to carry when travelling in Europe) actually has an expiry date - apparently it only lasts for five years and then you have to renew it. Ours expired last November so lucky we didn't need to use it on our holiday in March this year!! It's very simple to renew (if you know you have to), it can be done online and is FREE - so beware any website that wants to charge for this. SwissDave Posted April 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 14, 2011 Dont forget that your EHIC card will not cover you for any medical treatment aboard ship. If you need medical attention while in port then it's fine for emergency care. For everything else you need your insurance.
jocap Posted April 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2011 That's a handy warning....I think it must be just over 5 years since the EHIC card started, because I've heard of so many having to renew recently- ours was last Dec. So- thanks for reminding people!;) Jo.

EJNutz Posted April 15, 2011 #6 Share Posted April 15, 2011 Another bit of useful advice. Always make sure that you have the card with you, as you will not get free treatment in some countries if the card is not produced at the time of admittance to the doctor's or hospital.
