Here is a table Lido thread....you know the tables with 4 chairs

My old man will be on the lido at 7am with his coffee and will probably sit in a chair entire day at a table.....my group will probably be in and out of chairs. probably usually taking all chairs or maybe only 1 other person with him...

is this chair saving????? if there are 3 of us at a table will one of you join us? if there are 2 of us at table will 2 of you join us???

Crazies did that on their cruise with Host Mach, so it must be ok.

We have done that one person saving the chair while the other got food or whatever. Iv even sat there alone when I cruised solo. If I want to sit down I do by myself. It wouldnt occur to me otherwise. If a couple walks up and wants to sit down too, I always say sure. I meet people like that all the time.

Last year we found the perfect lido table on the ecstasy near an open window, we were constantly there and a lot of times my husband was there solo (I may have been at the casino...shh... don't tell him)as it was his favorite spot on the ship... as long as he is there and enjoying his vacation, paying for his drinks that we didn't smuggle on I don't think anyone could say a word.

I'll join you since we are sailing together :D

I think as long as he is sitting there it is fine. someone at another table may ask to borrow a chair though

Or they may just take it without asking if anyone was using it:mad:...On the Carnival Freedom I found a table with 2 chairs for DD and I to eat our lunch at. I sat down with my food while she was still getting hers. A minute later a teenage girl came running up to our table and grabbed the other chair, without saying a word to me, and pulled it over to another table with her friends. There were empty chairs at empty tables about 10-15 feet away that she could have grabbed. I got up, looked at her, and said "thanks for taking my daughters chair." Of course it didn't even phase her that she had just been rude, she went back to talking with her friends while I went to an empty table to get another chair for DD.

OP, to me, if you are sitting at a table with chairs, the chairs stay with the table. However if the place is filling up and your friends/family don't show up and someone asked if they could take a chair because there are none left... then it's only polite that you let them use it.

You are all welcome to come sit with us.....but not all day if you don't mind..lol.

actually, the servers love our group and so does Carnival....I think the Captain may even put a reserved card on the table from our family when they see how much we spend the first day on drinks......

.....but you are all welcome to pull up a chair.... and the old man knows how to have fun.

So if the Crazies do it, does that make it right?

Crazies wear ballcaps, tshirts and shorts to MDR. Does that make it right for all, regardless of dress code?

Seems to me most of the complaining about chair hogs is that nobody is actually using the chair, it is just being occupied by a flip flop or suntan lotion. So as long as somebody is using the table/chair then I don't see how it would be a problem, even if it is all day.

Last week on the Elation we were hours late to port. They ended up having to serve us lunch. DH and I went to Lido to get lunch and could not find a table. We approached an older woman who had been sitting by herself at a table for a while. We asked if we could join her or if the chairs were taken. She said, "NO they are taken". 10 minutes later we finally find a seat at the bar and eat. When we finished we walked around and the lady still had 3 empty chiars beside her. It would not have killed her to let us sit and eat our lunch.

We ended up just hanging out on deck for several more hours while waiting to port and her "friends" never joined her. I found this to be really rude given the situation everyone was in.

My dad is older and on our cruise, sat in one spot the ENTIRE week with bucket o' beers. He had no desire to be in the sun and he opined that he earned the right to relax. And that's what he did...LOL...He's a moker so he it wasn't an issue on his side but there were a few times we asked to borrow chairs on the nonsmoking side or asked to sit with people.

We had breakfast on 2 different mornings with 2 different men waiting for the DW to finish "getting ready"..LOL. One said if she wasn't there 15 minutes after we left, she'd be eating on her own as she was taking a long time...:o and thanked us for the company.

Shorts are allowed in the MDR.......whether you think it's right or wrong.......

We usually travel with a group of 6 or more. Myself or my aunt are usually the 1st ones up (6am or so) and head out to the Lido deck to grab breakfast and a table. By the time we are done eating at least 1 or 2 more people from our group shows up. Those of us who are finished eating head back to room to get in bathing suits and grab 2 chairs by the pool. When we (myself & aunt) get back to the lido area our table is full of our sailing mates and we relax by the pool (9am or so). My uncle (57 with bad knees & a hates to get sunburned) is always the last one up and at 'em and parks his rear at our table where he stays drinking DOD's :D until his mid-afternoon nap.

We lay in the sun until 10-11am then gladly give up our front row chairs to 2 ladies who have slept in till then. I always love the look on their face as we offer them our chairs when there are literally no others to be had. We then head back to "our table" and have lunch before moving on to enjoy other activities on the ship. We use the table until approx 2-3pm as a check in point and my uncle can tell you where everyone is at any given time. Which is helpful if you want to round up a game of cards & need an extra player!

Between 9-11am it is not uncommon to look up from my poolside chair and see my uncle sitting w/an entire table full of people he doens't know and happily chatting away. OR possibly sitting at a table by himself w/all the other chairs "borrowed" by surrounding tables.

We have met TONS of people while sharing "our table" and still talk about 1 elderly couple from Germany a couple years ago. It was their first cruise, they were both in their 80's and had just got an ice cream cone and wanted to sit in the shade. Of course we offered the end of our table and ended up chatting w/them for over an hour.

On the flip side one time I grabbed a 4 top table 1st thing in the morning and put my tray down & went back to get my forgetten coffee and when I came back every chair but 1 was taken from my table by a another table full of people, even though the table I was at was the only table around w/a tray on it.
