ehrlichpuppy Posted April 17, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 17, 2011 Someone on the message board for our cruise mentioned this place for lunch- has anyone ever been there? How expensive is it- and is it a good value for the price?

AuntieStorm Posted May 10, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 10, 2011 We were in the mood for a good lobster lunch so asked our tour driver to drop us off and pick us up after lunch for return to our ship. The lobster was delicious, but EXPENSIVE.
Aplmac Posted May 11, 2011 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2011 Economies of scale on a tiny island!! ;) Arty flies those lobsters in, from the Grenadies. All part of why it's expensive. The Caribbean Spiny Lobster situation on tiny oceanic islands isn't like the Maine Rock Lobster situation on a sprawling Continental Shelf! Life is different down here in these islands -not always as cute as your Advertising would have you believe. Very few of us drink Rum Punch and spend our afternoons sleeping under a coconut tree, on the beach..

How expensive is it- and is it a good value for the price? One word of caution - make sure the owner will be there. We went there for the first time last month since it seemed to get good reviews on these boards. We paid for our chairs and umbrella. Around 1pm we decided to go get something to eat. The owner wasn't there that day and nothing was available on the menu except for the lobster dinners. We were very disappointed since we wanted to try the lobster bisque and the seafood chowder. The lobster dinners were huge and we didn't want something that big. We wouldn't go back to Lobster Alive - just our experience your mileage may vary. :)
Host Faith Posted May 17, 2011 #6 Share Posted May 17, 2011 We had flying fish for I think $16 each: A nice alternative to the lobster. Since we rented chairs and an umbrella on the beach, my rum punch and my husband's Coke was free.
Aplmac Posted May 17, 2011 #7 Share Posted May 17, 2011 We had Flying Fish for I think $16 each: A nice alternative to the lobster. Flying Fish is usually always availableand is standard fare at most Barbados eateries...usually at reasonable prices. It's a small fish, not a big chunk of flesh, so don't expect something big. Two of them is often a serving (see pic above) and most people come away from such a lunch -with a smile on their faces. :) .

I looked at their menu online and it wasn't listed, so here I am searching for another place to have the famous flying fish that is within walking distance of the beach and the port. You have just made my day :) Thank-you!
