morriscats Posted March 20, 2005 #26 Share Posted March 20, 2005 Hi, Ask away - no problem. When you get off the ship you wait with Randi until all are present. Then you walk a short distance to the street where you board the open air taxi. After a short ride you arrive at the water taxi. Be prepared, it is where they clean fish and there is a smell and lots of pelicans. You get on the water taxi (a boat with benches across - if your mother cannot step over these benches, have her sit in front). Everyone has to put on a life jacket and away you go to Stone Island. You will see your ship as you go across to Stone Island. When you get off you board a large cart pulled by a tractor which takes you to the horses. The riders get their horses and they take off through a coconut grove. Randi doesn't ride much anymore and she walks to Victors (not a long walk) and you walk with her. If you are not riding you could also ride the cart to the beach with all the riders belongings. Victors is at one part of the beach and the riders go the opposite way and circle around back to Victors. Takes about 1 1/2 hours to ride. I hope this answers your questions. Either way you will have a nice time.
Hollyster2 Posted March 20, 2005 #27 Share Posted March 20, 2005 Thank you! This is the detail I needed! Sounds like we will sure have a new experience. I can't wait!:) My mother in law, her 20 yr old nephew, and my twin 18 yr old daughters are not riding, but meeting us at Victor's. I think this will answer all of their questions about the transport. Now if they would stop worrying about what they serve at Victor's. I am going for the shrimp, but I have a few who don't do sea food. I think they won't starve as long as their are chips and salsa!
morriscats Posted March 20, 2005 #28 Share Posted March 20, 2005 The garlic shrimp are good but I liked the breaded shrimp better. They also have ribs which are good. The onion rings could be a meal. So could the guacomole and chips. They also have fruit smoothies. Oh gosh, now I am going to have to book another cruise just to go to Victors and see Randi again. Be sure to tell her hi from Jess and Karen. She is so neat.
SeaYa52 Posted March 21, 2005 #29 Share Posted March 21, 2005 Please tell Randi that Sandy from Charlotte said hello too - she's the best - my friends & I had a great time on her tour last June.

Hollyster2 Posted March 21, 2005 #31 Share Posted March 21, 2005 Morriscats~ I was going to e-mail you, but I will thank you here again in person. Your info is appreciated by all who read it! I know Randi must really appreciate all the well wishes and messages sent through new riders from previous ones and friends. :)
revkev Posted March 21, 2005 #32 Share Posted March 21, 2005 Yes, I know, clothes. But it is nomally suggested to wear pants. That would seem quite hot. Are shorts OK, I'm wondering about the chafeing (sp?) from the leather saddles? Help is always appreciated. Kevin
morriscats Posted March 21, 2005 #33 Share Posted March 21, 2005 Holly: Thank you and have fun. Kevin: My kids and grandkids wore shorts - they kept their beach towels and just put them over the saddle and they were fine.
AZPam Posted March 23, 2005 #34 Share Posted March 23, 2005 Count us in with the high praise for Randi! We just got off the Diamond Princess sailing of March 12th and had an absolute blast with Randi. I think that was our best day of the cruise! They were great in matching horses to people. My husband and daughter imagine themselves as cowboys, so they got horses with a little more spirit. Myself and my son are much more content just plodding along and the horses we received were more than happy to do just that. Randi was right on time to meet us, if not early, and was even nice enough to take along my two nephews at the last minute. Horses were clean and in great condition, you can tell they have been well cared for. There was a new baby born just that morning, so we got an extra treat. There were two smaller kids in our group, ages maybe about 5 & 8?, and they totally seemed to love it. The guides led their horses and took great care of them. The beach we rode to was one of the nicest I had been to in a long time. Beautiful ride and Victors was everything that was promised. The garlic shrimp was yummy! We also ended up renting some ATV's ($35/hour) and that was alot of fun too. It was great fun and we would recommend Randi to anyone. For those of you that are going soon, tell her hello from Phoenix! Pam
JohnQ Posted March 24, 2005 #35 Share Posted March 24, 2005 Kevin, Shorts are fine for Randi's. The ride is not that long, horses are clean, and they use blankets too. We all had shorts and were fine. We were surprised to not be sore the next day. Guess we didn't ride far enough down the beach. Bummer!! Randi is lot of fun and you get a good laid back day in old mexico.
Cruisin Rick Posted March 28, 2005 #36 Share Posted March 28, 2005 I sense some competion bashing here .We rode wit Randi and it was an exceptioal excursion. I plan to do it agian sometimne whem In Mazatlan. By the way, we met her at the trminal last cruise. It was a short day in Mazatlan so we did omething else. But she came right up to us even though it was several years and e had a great conversation. she;s a fine person and knows what she's doing. Go for it! you'll remeber this for the rest of your life. eileen11 Posted March 28, 2005 #37 Share Posted March 28, 2005 We would never hesitate to ride with Randi. We've had all age groups on her fantastic tour and everyone had a blast - even those who were leary about riding a horse. Don't miss this tour because it's one of the best you'll ever be on! morriscats Posted March 28, 2005 #38 Share Posted March 28, 2005 No, not competition bashing - just unfair that the competition, under various screen names, can sell their tour but Randi has been banned. That's ok though - those that ride with her and her group and get to know her personally "sell" her tour for her. She is the best. Can't wait to go again. Hollyster2 Posted March 28, 2005 #39 Share Posted March 28, 2005 On our cruise this summer, there are a group of 28 Disney Magic guests riding with Randi. We are all so excited! I love that people return again and again. We went up to Clear Lake this weekend for Easter and while driving we saw so many on horseback it made my kids even more anxious to ride with Randi. :)
Cruisin Rick Posted March 28, 2005 #40 Share Posted March 28, 2005 Randi is one of a kind. She is knowlegable about selecting horse for riders, Kind to everbody, takes special precautions with children, has escorts along the way to look out for everybody, she let's you actually ride around instead of a nose to tail ride. It's a fun excursion. Stone Island is like stepping back in time. It was a very enjoyable experiance for my wife and I who are novice riders. I am so novice, it the first time I could remember getting on a horse. At any rate, if you're expecting the Country Club at the Hamptons, you might refrain from this excursion. It wouldn't be to your lofty standards. Victors on the Beach. I wouldn't rate it with the Fairmont, it's an open aired, thatched roof eatery on the beach. The cool breeze come through as you dine and the fish or shrimp is prepaired very well. I haven't heard of anybody not enjoying their meal. One more thing, don't forget to take your camera. Randi will use your canmera to take some pictures of a liftime of you and your family sitting on your horses with the ocean in the background. No charge, friends, that's just the type of person she is. I'm glad I didn't miss this excursion and will do it again sometime. JohnQ Posted March 28, 2005 #41 Share Posted March 28, 2005 Hollyster Not 28 in one group, right? I thought she only used 12 or 13 horses? Clear Lake? Like in Northern Calif? If so I know that place. My dad had a walnut orchard up there.
rsjj Posted March 31, 2005 Author #42 Share Posted March 31, 2005 ok, you've all convinced me! but i'm taking our DSs on some pony ride locally, just to "test the water", with them. that would be similar to randi's horses, right? or are pony rides completely different from the horse rides? (and i'm sorry, cuz i'm not a horse rider...i honestly don't know!) again, thank you! btw, does anyone know how come i don't get e-mail notification when others have responded to this thread? i do have "instant e-mail notification" thing on. i just didn't realized people were responding to this...i thought it sorta stopped...until i happened upon it today! thanx! Randi has been a doll about answering my e-mails. And yes, Clear Lake in Northern Ca. We had wonderful weather for our egg hunt!:)
rsjj Posted April 4, 2005 Author #44 Share Posted April 4, 2005 i know the shrimp is great! and we do intend on getting that...but are there anything for children? unfortunately, our 2 DSs don't eat shrimps... thank you in advance! :)
morriscats Posted April 4, 2005 #45 Share Posted April 4, 2005 I know they had ribs. And the breaded shrimp are so good couldn't you tell them it was something else (they really are huge and don't look like "shrimp", more like prawns. Randi would know better than I - we just didn't look too much at the menu as we knew what we wanted. The smoothies were good. Maybe you could take some snacks with you for them. They will have so much fun - then it will be back to the ship for more burgers and pizza and stuff so they will be fine. Have a great time. sassycruiser Posted April 5, 2005 #50 Share Posted April 5, 2005 We rode with Randi in February, I thought the ride was fantastic and would do it again. However, my husband doesn't agree. And I have to say that I do not think that they make very much effort to match the horses to the people. After my son and I had our horses my husband was still in the crowd waiting for his horse. By the time he received a horse almost everyone in the group was ready to go. He tried to tell the person helping him that he had never ridden before and he needed a slow, plodding horse. The lady says to him, fine horse, El Rapido. My husband says, no I want a slow horse, but she just smiles and put him in line. Fortunately, Tony realized that my husband didn't know what he was doing and kept an eye on him. We managed without any mishaps, but my husband still says his butt hurts (after 2 months). So, I would definitely be vocal about anything like that. I loved seeing the more rustic side of Mexico. I enjoyed that Stone Island was not another cookie cutter resort with more Americans than locals. That was why I booked Randi's after reading so many positive reviews.
