Can anyone give me some info on San Juan? Flying in on Sat. afternoon with cruise leaving on Sun. So, need room for one night and transportation to ship. There are three of us. Is there anything we should see while there? Thank You

We were in SJU in Jan 2011. We stayed at the Intercontinental San Juan. We liked it a lot, since it is oceanfront. There are many shops that are within walking distance in case you ened to pick up anything last minute. They also had a very nice pool. The El San Juan was right next door and appeared to be nice also.

I would say that seeing Old San Juan is a must. We did not get over there until after the cruise though. We debarked and took a tour of Old San Jaun before we went to the airport. We thoroughly enjoyed SJU and are planning another cruise from there Jan 2012.

Good luck! Happy planning!

:cool:Flying in day before is the only way to go. Have two recommendations, depending on price range and wow factor. For WOW, try El San Juan hotel and Casino www.elsanjuanhotel.com. On beach, great pool, poor bars, 7 restaurants on site, along with casino. Never have to leave. OR try www.hotelmilanopr.com. Small, inexpensive hotel right in Old San Juan. Rooftop bar and restaurant. Can walk to everything. We walked to pier, took ferry across, and went on Barardi tour. Caught cab on other side. About $5 total for ferry, cab etc.

I used Hotwire (to specify 3 guests) and ended up with the Sheraton Old San Juan. It was perfectly fine for staying the night, is on the water (not beach) and you can definitely walk to the various attractions of Old San Juan from it.

At the SJU airport, there is a small counter for taxis staffed by someone who will ask you where you are going (hotel). He will then mark that on a slip to give to a driver. The taxi is flat-rate, depending on where you are going (split into different zones). The next day you would then have to take a taxi to the ship ... I believe RCI ships leave from the Pan American pier which is a bit secluded from the hotels in the area.

We were on the 4/3/11 sailing for AOS and stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan Saturday night and it was nice. We walked through the main part of Old San Juan and really enjoyed it. It is a short cab ride from the Sheraton in Old San Juan to the PanAm port. We will definately stay there again.

We flew in on Friday, stayed at the marriott Stellaris resort in Condado Beach. On Saturday we went to Old San Juan, and then hoped on Adventure of the Seas on Sunday.

Check out the San Juan board in the Ports of Call section of this website, it's a great place to learn and ask questions
