Reva_Dearchi Posted April 28, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2011 Does anyone know if Platinum status Carnival Cruisers get a 'pass' on liquor purchased in port and it is still delivered to our cabin the night before debarkation as opposed to us having to pick it up on debarkation morning? golfadj Posted April 28, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 28, 2011 Any reason to think that we would? This new policy sucks but do not think they will make us platinums get booze easier than the rest.
Reva_Dearchi Posted April 28, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted April 28, 2011 I actually saw it mentioned on another thread but the person didn't really elaborate. I was hoping it was a perk for being a loyal customer.
firefly333 Posted April 28, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 28, 2011 Maybe the poster saw it in a dream?? I havent read that platinum gets special treatment on this, though to me it would make sense, since they can get off the ship first.
katiel53 Posted April 28, 2011 #6 Share Posted April 28, 2011 We did a B2B on Dream 4/2-4/16. We bought liquor in St Thomas and it was delivered to the ship. We are Platinum and expected to have to go to the library on Saturday morning before debarking to pick up our liquor. We were very surprised that it was delivered to our cabin on Friday night. I asked our cabin steward and he said it was a new policy and that Platinum guests get theirs delivered. We hadn't told him we had liquor delivered or anything. I think this is a great benefit for us!
PimpTastic1 Posted April 28, 2011 #7 Share Posted April 28, 2011 What is next, platinum guests have their own swimming pool on the ship? The right to remove a non-platinum guest from a casino table if there are no available seats and a platinum guest wants to play? I understand the concept of the platinum membership, and I have no complaints with the original benefits offered. You know, the ones actually listed on the Carnival website. But now, more and more, we are seeing special exceptions are being made to every policy or procedure (as silly as some are) for platinum guests. And you wonder why some people believe that platinum benefits include allowing them to command the ship and cutting the line at the lido deck buffet. As a Platinum guest I'd love to be able to do that... On a serious note you have to be joking right? The Platinum program with its current benefits is almost laughable when you compare it to the programs of CCL's peers. I really want to see when CCL finally unveils the long await revamp of the program with added benefits what the reaction is going to be like on CC...The site may just actually meltdown, then again it prob. want as it doesn't appear were going to be seeing the new program in my lifetime. Not too long ago, there was a trip report with someone saying they witnessed a guest going off on a Carnival employee because the retractable roof was over the lido deck pool and they demanded that the roof be pulled back and they had to do it because they were platinum guests. (I would search for the thread but the search feature is currently disabled.) Not commanding the ship, but close. And we all have seen the trip reports with people who witness buffet line cutters and when confronted, they say "I can, I am platinum". I can understand where you are coming from. However, especially at these ports where you debark at 7AM, how it is fair that one set of guests can get their goods the night before while the other have to wait until the morning of? What if they wanted to pack it in their luggage and they do not do a self-assist debark? The Carnival response is "you are not platinum, sorry about your luck"? That would not make me want keep cruising with them and eventually obtain my own platinum status. I do not mean to start issues or a platinum/non-platinum war, and I have absolutely no problems with any of the Carnival perks as advertised on the website, but it just seems like every time Carnival enacts a new policy or procedure, the first response here tends to be "but we are platinum, so that should not apply to us". Well we are platinum and I have to say I have not seen any of the instances you brought up. Infact every cruise I go on I get to see the list of how many platinum members are on board (casino list that I have to sign for the slot tournament) and the most I have seen on any of our cruises was about 15. That was the most. And that includes 4 in our group. That is not very many on a ship of over 3,000. But I have to say I have seen many more fools onboard:p

rh3 Posted April 28, 2011 #16 Share Posted April 28, 2011 Gotta love ccl. Call something a platinum"benefit" cause it was taken away from everyone else. Glad I'm platinum before the next "benefit" hits the board-like.......not having to serve myself in the mdr????

cruisealot Posted April 29, 2011 #19 Share Posted April 29, 2011 Why shouldn't platinum cruisers get this perk? As a platinum cruiser I don't think this is too much to ask for. Most of the perks are worthless! Who cares about personalized stationary. Give me something useful. To avoid this you can also buy your liquor on the last day of the cruise and they will usually let you take it to your room with you. I've had this happen several time. Now milestone is a different thing, on our last 3 cruises and we were the only milestones on the cruise. On the Elation in November I was the only Milestone cruiser. Don't know what happened but when I boarded I was given a platinum card. I was kind of disappointed cause this was my milestone cruise. The next morning I got a phone call and was asked to come down to guest services. After apologizing the for the error the Purser gave me my milestone card. We chatted for a few minutes and he told me I was the only milestone on that cruise.

No it is not a big deal BUT the issue is, why did they put in this new policy in the first place? In other words, this should not need to be a perk. travler27 Posted April 29, 2011 #24 Share Posted April 29, 2011 Back in the old days, when I had to work for a living, I did a lot of flying and got multi-million miler status on Delta Air Lines. I gave all my left over miles to my daughter (something like 600,000) and haven't flown on anything in almost 12 years. However, I still get a monthly statement from Delta and still get all the perks I got 12 years ago if I ever decide to fly again. I just don't use them now. Delta knows how to run a loyalty program. And they now have my daughter and her husband as loyal customers too. Maybe Carnival just ain't as smart as Delta.
