cruzeluver Posted May 9, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2011 Thanks for the pics! So glad we got to sail her while she was still Mercury. All that writing on her hull is a little obnoxious.

lambcom Posted May 9, 2011 #7 Share Posted May 9, 2011 A question for European and especially German Cruise Critic members. Celebrity ships (including the late lamented Mercury) are generally described as being at the high end of the "Mass Market" cruising category. On this same scale, where would TUI's Mein Schiff 2 be classified? In other words have they turned it into a German version of Norwegian or Carnival "party hearty" ship or is it still upscale by German standards. Enquiring minds want to know! c-legs Posted May 9, 2011 #8 Share Posted May 9, 2011 Upscale by German Standards. The'' Carnival''-like lines for Germans is Aida ( which CCL owns anyways...)..a tad above Carnival-NCL types. My opinion.
SugarLover Posted May 9, 2011 #9 Share Posted May 9, 2011 It looks as if they extended and added a bunch of balconies... But what's with the ducktail????? Does that stabilize it more? or does the ducktail include interior space that's been added on? Rare Germancruiser Posted May 10, 2011 #10 Share Posted May 10, 2011 Mein Schiff 2 is considered upscale- thats right- I presume Aida quest are not Mein Schiff 2 quests. Frecall- I loved it- Vandals--- well the added balconys for sure a big plus- but those stupid letters and sentences around the hull- well they seem to love it. If they suceede like they did - maybe all Milli- Class ships end up that way- some day. Michael
derf5585 Posted May 11, 2011 #11 Share Posted May 11, 2011 Rihanna is continuing her streak of appearances for her campaign with the skincare line Nivea. The ‘California King Bed‘ singer was recently spotted exiting a cruise ship in Hamburg, Germany in association with her Nivea campaign. The fiery red-haired singer was seen leaving the Mein Schiff 2 cruise ship in the port of Hamburg looking like a rock star. from http://popcrush.com/rihanna-cruise-nivea-campain/

derf5585 Posted May 11, 2011 #14 Share Posted May 11, 2011 Where so you find this stuff, lol??? I have a news alert on Google I also found this Mein Schiff 2 will be christened at Hamburg on Saturday. The second ship owned by TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises resembles Mein Schiff 1 in almost everything; “they’re like peas in a pod” it has been remarked. The ship has 962 cabins, 624 facing the sea, and can carry up to 1,912 passengers. Diners can eat and drink in eight restaurants and bistros, 10 bars and lounges. The casino has disappeared completely from onboard. “The Germans do not gamble like that,” says Richard Vogel. Because the game and roulette tables on the first ship too often remained empty, there are now only a few one-armed bandits in the sports bar in the smoking area. The sports and fitness area was increased compared to its predecessor by about 200 square metres. The spa and wellness centre now also offers thalassotherapy. The removal of a casino made room for an additional stage. Although a second theatre is significantly smaller than the 1,700 people theatre, it should be a credible alternative in the evening programme. “In future there will not be two shows in the theatre, but two different evening events,” Mr Vogel announced. At the top of the ship it is now more relaxed than on the Mein Schiff 1. “Obviously there is a great need to have private and shielded areas,” says Vogel. The booths designed like clams on the sun deck can be rented by the day. “The big question is always: In which direction the ship moves and where is the sun,” says Mr Vogel. However, according to yesterday’s Schweriner Vokszeitung, for all this more room for unobserved togetherness, the fact that the ship will be coming to Malta has enforced a significant change. Malta allows nudism only in areas not visible from land. “Here it was not possible,” Mr Vogel said – “that’s why the former nudist area on the sun deck on the new ship has been omitted.” from http://www.independent.com.mt/news.asp?newsitemid=125009

cruzeluver Posted May 11, 2011 #16 Share Posted May 11, 2011 Diners can eat and drink in eight restaurants and bistros Interesting. I wonder where all these additional dining venues were added. As Mercury, she only had the main dining room and the buffet.

dmwnc1959 Posted May 11, 2011 #19 Share Posted May 11, 2011 By the looks of the deck plans for MEIN SCHIFF 2 the casino was removed. The aft covered pool looks like to be gutted and the internet cafe all on MERCURY are now all places to eat or drink. Also looks like the entire Rendezvous Lounge was gutted and sectioned into smaller venues. Rare Germancruiser Posted May 12, 2011 #21 Share Posted May 12, 2011 HI Anne, no sure wont give them ideas with the Milli- Class. That would mean no Milli Class for me, because I avoid beeing on board only german speaking ships. I just saw the newest youtube video- well for me it looks a lot like the Solstice Class and they did a great job in Solsticize her. She still has the X- style. Such a shame there are just germans on board. LOL. Michael

dmwnc1959 Posted May 12, 2011 #23 Share Posted May 12, 2011 Episode 132 : The first time on the high seas . (sea trial) Anyone know German The new ships interior shots including a casino The FORTUNES casino shown in the video is not from MEIN SCHIFF 2, but from the Celebrity MERCURY. The video contains several 'Before and After' segments, one being that 'Before' it was this casino, 'After' it's now a Surf and Turf restaurant and Wine Tastings Bar. Similarly, 'Before and After' showing the once amazing Navigators Club and Observation Lounge is now a giant gym with treadmills, as well as changes in the Grand Foyer, Spa, the Deck 5 port side Atrium lounge and Guest Relations Desk, Cova Cafe all being shown in a 'Before and After' style of reporting.
