Administrators Rare LauraS Posted May 12, 2011 Administrators #1 Share Posted May 12, 2011 In Rome, all is quiet today after a prophecy that predicted Rome would have a catastrophic earthquake on May 11, 2011 proved untrue. It didn’t happen, obviously, though that didn’t stop Romans from fleeing town, according to the BBC. And while it was a quiet day at the port of Civitavecchia, which serves Rome (only [...] More... jocap Posted May 12, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2011 I hope the Cartagena mentioned in the blog doesn't mean in Spain, which is a friendly, happy little town, where it's a joy to dock. Jo.
iain48 Posted May 13, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 13, 2011 Think the Cartagena mentioned is in Colombia. It seems to have a bad reputation but was there on Panama Canal cruise earlier this year and thought it was a great stop.
Goldryder Posted May 13, 2011 #4 Share Posted May 13, 2011 No ports worry me at all...went to Aden, Yemen, last year, fascinating city to look at, the way the homes cling onto sheer volcanic rock like limpets is amazing...nah...not bothered by going anywhere, you just have to be aware of your surroundings, be respectful of local customs/dresscode/people and you'll be fine. Don't be an idiot and take your worldly goods like cameras, credit cards, cash with you as that usually invites trouble...you might as well have a neon sign over your head with 'I am a dumb tourist- easy prey'. I have encountered such fools in the past when cruising and they are usually the ones who become crybabies when they get mugged. Be sensible, be respectful, be courteous & be aware. Smee Posted May 13, 2011 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2011 Always be aware of your surroundings, unfortunately we Brits are not as welcome in some parts of the world as we once were. Use your loaf..
William Dean Posted May 21, 2011 #6 Share Posted May 21, 2011 Gibraltar scares me witness. Not for my safety, but for my sanity. I will remain on board next time. Horrid place. Ugh. WD
blackpool belle Posted May 24, 2011 #7 Share Posted May 24, 2011 Naples is a nightmare. Besides having to have your wits about you to beat the pick-pockets it's also a case of dodge the mopeds/scooters. They even mount the pavements. There is absolutely no road traffic hierarchy.
