Sea Princess question

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what currency is onboard the Sea Princess AUS/NZ cruises? I had assumed it was in $US, but was just sussing out a very noted online US cruise site, for pricing, and they say the currency is in aussie dollars for sailings from oz to nz. I had planned on it being $US.......anyone know for sure, before I ring tomorrow.

Thanks, Jen:)

I do not know for sure but we are cruising Diamond Princess NZ/Aus and that is definatly US... I was told that all ships not based here are US, so only Dawn Princess and Sun Princess AUS.. We were on Rhapsody Of The Seas and that was from Syd to South Pacific and it was still US as not based permenanly here... Hope that has helped... Probably not though :D

Good luck Fiona:)

Yes, the Diamond is definately in $US....we were on her last year. I assumed the Sea Princess was the same, until tonight when I read differently.....my eyes nearly popped out of my head, and I have re-read it a dozen times. I am hoping the info is wrong.

Hi Jen

Might still be worth while checking with Princess, but my understanding is that the three Sun Class ships (SunP, Dawn P and SeaP) operating out of OZ next season will be Australianised - thus OZ Dollars on board and no tipping.

An operational point however is that the Sea Princess will be "Seconded" to OZ waters, whereas the Sun P and the Dawn P are based here - and have been appropriately modified - eg Cabin Power points and Laundry Coin receptors. I would imagine that the Sea P will still retain its American factors in these issues.

Thanks....I was just having a panic attack !! Really doesn't matter, as the $US we have are left over from last cruise, and we are looking at a Carribbean one for 2012. Guess we will have to book it, to get rid of the $US...lol. I am simply surprised, but what you say makes sense. Will ring them tomorrow of course....but CC is always quicker and sometimes more accurate. Lucky I read this.

Agreed, information I've seen is that the Sun, Dawn and Sea Princess will operate with Australian dollars onboard currency. As Sea is only here temporarily I could understand them retaining USD, but I think they wanted to keep it simpler for locals given the other two are AUD (and it's viewed as a marketing advantage).

Ok, have been googling aussie sites, and found two that say it is in aussie dollars. They should put it on the Princess site, to be clear to hazy people such as myself! I will still ring tomorrow, and I thank you for your answers. I wonder where we get coins for the laundry...perhaps they will alter these machines.

I deserve a glass of wine to settle the nerves. Thanks again.

Just incase anyone else is interested....I rang Princess this morning, and yes, all sailings on Sea Princess out of Aust/NZ are totally in aussie dollars. This includes the laundry, casino etc. So all is good......looks like we will have to do the Caribbean next year after all...yes!!

I am willing to bet that the Laundry and Casino will be operated on an "exchange " basis ...ie you will need to obtain US currency from the conciege or casino boss to be active.

I am also willing to bet that there will be no changes to the in cabin power outlets..thus only US 110v will be available. This is not necessarily a major issue as cabin outlets are usually used for chargers for cameras, mobile phones and computers and all these will usually have chargers that are multi functional. However pax will need to consider taking on board appropriate outlet converters and multi access boards.

I would like to think that Princess will make the situation clear for their passengers well before sailing

cheers
