Best Ways To Get Around NOLA

We're cruising in September and will be staying at the Springhill Suites by the convention center. We're driving down, so we will have a car, but I'm sure parking in the French Quarter is a nightmare... so, what's the best and cheapest way to get to the FQ and other places of interest?

We will be riding around on the Trollies when we go. There are 3 of them, cost $1.25pp, and go anywhere we would want to get around to site see for a little while.

When are you cruising in September? I'm on the 9/11 Spirit cruise. :)

We used a combination of walking and the streetcars. We didn't try to drive at all because of parking. Most of the tourist sites are within walking distance. We tried the streetcar mostly for the experience.

Yea, that's mainly what we plan on going on it for. Just to say we did it since we've never done anything like that before. We don't plan on adventuring too far from the hotel (it has all the food, swimming, and everything we need there).

Hi,

We will be staying near the riverfront area at Hilton Riverside across from Harrah's Casino in October 2011.

Was wondering if the steet car comes by this area and if so can you ride to french qtr and get off and then spend some time there and then catch a street car back to hotel. In other words are you able to hop on- hop off these street cars. If feel sure we would have to paid the $1.25 each time.

Also transporation from airport to hotel and cruise ship to hotel. Which have you all found to be best Taxi or Shuttle?

Thanks so much for any information.

Marcy

If you have the address to your hotel, google map it to see the exact location, you can use the map I posted above to see if they run by your hotel and where you can go on it.

Yes, you would have to pay the $1.25 each time you got off and back on. Or, I heard you can buy a ticket (that last several days I believe) for a certain amount.

There doesn't seem to be much of a choice for transportation from the airports to the hotels. Private shuttles seem to be outrageous in pricing. Everyone has suggested just taking a cab. :)

I'm going a cruise out of NOLA in Nov.-this is the info I received yesterday from a hotel, when I inquired about shuttle service:

Unfortunately, due to city ordinances, we are prevented from being able to pick up or drop off anyone at the airport. The airport, however, does offer a shuttle service to downtown area hotels and here is their website: www.airportshuttleneworleans.com. There will also be plenty of taxis available and a taxi usually costs approximately $32.00.

Hope this helps-enjoy your cruise:cool:

Thank you all for the information and comments. I will google the location and check your map for the routes. It's also good to know that it makes a stop at Hilton, Thanks, now just need to decided on shuttle or taxi for trip to hotel and port for boarding and when we return for trip back to airport.

Just hope weather will be good this October. Last year we cruised out of Ft. Lauderdale same week but in November. We were lucky and hit right between a storm week before and week after. Hope we will be lucky again this year. Never took a cruise in October before.

Thanks,

Marcy

If you are staying at the Hilton Riverside there is a stop for the Riverfront streetcar. This route is very short - just from one end of the Quarter to the Convention Center which is on the other side of your hotel.

Passes are available for single day or multi day, but one way rides are $1.25 and you need exact change. The driver does not give change. To the best of my knowledge, it is cash only on the streetcars.
