Good luck and great weather for your cruise. Based on a quick check for the latest news stories on Google News, an ABC News item in the past few minutes says: "A no-fly zone is being enforced for 120 nautical miles in all directions of the eruption." A story from Bloomberg News in the last few minutes had this quote: “We expect the ash cloud to enter Norwegian airspace over the course of the night,” said Jens Petter Duestad, chief of control centers for Norwegian airport operator Avinor.

It would seem that you would be able to get into Copenhagen, etc. Hopefully that holds. From the April 2010 problems, I think they have learned not to over-react in having too wide of an airport closing zone. As happens in Alaska, there are ways to fly around problem areas. Hopefully things work well for your flights AND on your cruise. Look forward to hearing reports on how things go for your trip.

guess I ll just pack as planned,,and HOPE flights go,,,and cruise too..Don t like the "ash going to Norwegian airspace",,,sounds ominous...but will keep checking and pray for best....

Going into "airspace" does not mean you will see it at ground level. It could be at the 20-40,000 feet level and just flying, high, high above. Last year, they had very interesting maps on the web showing the moving masses of "stuff" at the high and higher air levels. Nothing hitting at ground level. We are flying June 5 to Barcelona (through JFK airport, not Heathrow), so I'll be watching with interest. Will you have your laptop to update us as you travel and/or during your cruise?

Don't be confused!!! As you dig for more details, it's encouraging.

The article from the Guardian in London within the last ten minutes gives more info: "Icelandic volcano ash could enter UK airspace. Britain may be at risk as early as Tuesday, although the impact is not expected to be as great as it was in April 2010 . . . the weather situation is set to be different to last year, with the wind direction set to change continuously . . . . the experience gained from the 2010 eruption, especially by the Met Office, the airline industry, and the engine manufacturers, should mean less disruption to travellers."

Eurocontrol, the Europe-wide air traffic control network, said in a statement: "There is currently no impact on European or transatlantic flights and the situation is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours. Aircraft operators are constantly being kept informed of the evolving situation."
