Mike M Posted May 26, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2011 I asked Celebrity about using my Android phone to connect and logon/off the Constellation 802.11g shipboard wireless network. Captain's Club replied: "Guests are able to connect to the Wi-Fi system with their Android phone and any other mobile devices as long as they have web browser capability (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Opera)." I have searched the CruiseCritic message boards and not found anyone mentioning using there Android phones on the ship's wifi. Some mentioned using data over the cellular phone satellite system but I want to use the ship's wifi which requires purchasing minutes. My Android 2.2 phone is using the standard Safari browser; so I guess it will be OK. But I would feel much better if anyone would post their successful use of an Android phone on a Celebrity ship's wifi network. Thank you. I have used the ship's network on several cruises with a PC and discovered the slowness you talked about. I was worried about logging on/off with an Android. I feel better. Otherwise it was very slow. The internet service on the ships is usually very slow regardless of how you connect to it - even on the wired computers in the ship's internet cafe. Wifi doesn't care if you use Android, Mac OS, Windows, Linux etc. as long as your device is Wifi complaint it should work. When we first start using our laptop, iPhone or iPad on the ship's wifi the wifi system automatically launches a browser on our device which has the log in screen. Without logging in, which is done so they can start charging you $0.65/minute, you can't get on the internet. This feature is probably requires for your device and browser to be compatible. BTW - life will be easier for you if you set a "favorite" link for the log off page so you can be sure you've stopped the ship's billing meter. Fblack Posted May 26, 2011 #9 Share Posted May 26, 2011 The wifi is tied into your ship board Internet account. Not only is it expensive, but in two different cabins I had very slow, poor service. Not only is the connection itself to your device slow, but the Internet is painfully slow. Best bet is to use it on land at some other location than on the ship.
