Jewish Holidays

Wife and I have taken over half a dozen cruises. We normally go to the Friday night (Shabbat) service. Rarely has there been a Rabbi there. Fortunately, Celebrity has always left the necessary items (wine, Challah, candles, etc.). Due to my Yeshiva background I have regularly led the services. Once, during a 17 days cruise, we had regular services in the library believing there was no Rabbi on the ship. We found out later that the Rabbi was not aware of our services and had slept in during his entire (free) cruise. We managed very well without him. You would be surprised at the Yidishkite level of most Jews. Many know the prayers by heart or were prepared and brought a prayer book with them. I’m sailing this September and will be brining my regular and high holiday prayer book with me. It might be the same Rabbi as before! LOL Best advise – if you want to pray on the ship, come prepared.
