What do you pay for and what's free?

Recommended Posts

I always tell people this: Everything you need is included in the fare (except tips). Most of the things you may WANT are extra charge.

included: meals, entertainment, some drinks (not soda or alcohol) use of excercise eqpt.

extra: soda/pop, alcohol, tips, shore excursions, spa (massages etc.) hagan daz ice cream (but there is FREE ice cream in dining rooms and at buffet at 3pm)

there are other things, just can not think of them now?

  • Coffee, Tea, Milk, Iced Tea, Ice Water, Juice (usually only see in am)
  • Entertainment
  • Room Service (I usually tip $2)

Pay for:

  • Food in alternative restaurants (price varies more dining info here - http://www.*****.com/dining.cfm)
  • Alcoholic beverages & soda
  • Photos
  • Excursions
  • Internet use
  • Spa
  • Shopping
  • Casino

I'm sure I missed a few (too early in the morning!) The link above also has lots of info for first time cruisers. Princess is a great cruiseline! Pools/hottubs open 24/7, freshwater pools, great service, good food, etc. We've already taken 5 Princess cruises (Grand, Golden 2x, Coral & Star) and look forward to being able to do another. Enjoy!

There is no charge. You fill in a card, place it on your door handle and the fruit is delivered during the day.

The choice includes apples, oranges, bananas, pears and kiwi fruit. There may possibly be other choices but I cannot recall. Sorry !

Nick,

Grab yourself some $1 notes from the bank before you go. Use them to tip anyone that delivers something for 'room service' be it breakfast, tea, coffee, snacks etc.

I tend to give a few $$s upfront to the cabin steward when we arrive as well, not so much as a sweetener... more to apologise in advance for bringing my 4 teens along as well!!

Your onboard account will be charged in dollars. If I were you I'd check out the Nationwide Credit Card. They don't charge any commission on purchases abroad. When you complete your express checkout form, make sure you tick the box to say that you don't want Princess to convert your onboard account into sterling. It's cheaper if Nationwide does it once it hits your account in dollars. Princess will charge you an extra 3% and probably have a less favourable exchange rate!

If I remember correctly... you are bringing your children. Take advantage of the soda card. Not sure of the price but buy it on arrival and the kids can have unlimited 'soft' fizzy drinks thereafter.

When you board, ask the steward from towelling bath robes. They are not routinely left in the cabin (unless it's a suite).

If you are planning on using the laundry, suggest you bring some Daz or Persil tablets as I never managed to get my head round the American brands which are on sale. I also brought some 'bounce' dryer sheets for the tumble dryer.

Fill in the online Princess Cruise Personalizer You will need your booking reference to access.

Take some travel adaptors if you are going to be charging anything - they are likely to be US sockets.

Free?? Maybe the fresh air, the sun and the sound of the waves. Nothing else is free :D ;) . Haven't you paid for everything else already?

PS: Maybe I'm getting silly and giddy because I'll be aboard the Golden in less than 48 hours!! :)
